I have been to Villa Sumaya on Lake Atitlan near Santa Cruz twice, each time for a week with a group doing yoga and writing. The place is extremely well designed and appointed with a mix of traditional Mayan weaving and other lovely touches of color and design. The palapa for yoga is spectacular, the beds in the rooms are... More

I came for a writing and yoga retreat and got so much more. Kindness and sincerity love and compassion are abundant. My writing deepened. Questions I brought with me that I never expected to be answered were answered. I felt the most right about my self than I have in decades. Everything was compatible. the food - colorful, fresh. local... More

Villa Sumaya in Guatemala only gets better over time, which is amazing, because I've been coming here for 10 years and it was pretty stunning in year one. Wendy and her staff have a deep respect for the Mayan community and they incorporate the indigenous heritage in every way possible. The food is 5 star, and I mean for every... More

I just taught a one week yoga retreat at Sumaya. I have taught retreats in Mexico, Israel, Egypt and Upstate NY and have never ever had such a phenomenal experience as I did this week. My main take aways: 1. The place is exquisite: the grounds are fabulous, the rooms are amazing and clean and the many relaxing nooks and... More

I've stayed at Villa Sumaya twice, both times for a weeklong yoga retreat, and both times it was a heavenly escape. The views of Lake Atitlan are breathtaking, the accomodations are rustic but comfortable and fit perfectly into the natural setting, and the food - ahh the food - always fresh, healthy and delicious! I enjoyed every meal so much.... More

Villa Suymaya has something for anyone who is seeking a retreat of mind, body and spirit or someone seeking a tranquil base for exploration. I spent 9 days there on a “personal retreat” which, for me, involved lots of walking, yoga, and meditation as well as a few trips to local villages, a cooking class, and several types of body... I am completing a 2 week personal retreat at Villa Sumaya, and I can't say enough great things about it. I love the people who work here. Wendy Stauffer, the owner, is an awakened spiritual teacher in the Buddhist tradition. She generously shared her guidance and wisdom with me. Krystalyn, the resident yoga instructor, henna artist and leader of sacred... More

Villa Sumaya is a very special place to connect to your deepest self and emerge transformed by the experience. The property is visually stunning, meticulously cared for, and bursting with healing energy. Come for yoga, meditation, massages, group retreats, swimming, healthy eating, and a connection to traditional Mayan fire ceremonies. My wife and I will make this an annual trip.... More

I attended Villa Sumaya as part of a yoga retreat and to personally rest, rejuvenate and reconnect . It is a beautiful setting with many places to retreat to for quiet yet it also provides the balance of physical activity such as swimming, kayaking, immersing in a hot tub or sauna and hiking. The setting is beautiful with 2 prominent... More

A charming boutique hotel that caters to those who love relaxing in beautiful places. There are activities as well; hikes, yoga, massages and kayaking for example. You can also visit the other pueblos on the lake where there is amazing shopping! I will definitely be back!
