We did not stay at the hotel but only ate at the Tortilla Flats restaurant. The food was fine but nothing spectacular. The cuisine looked like it catered to the tourists more than anything so not what I was hoping for - local authentic Costa Rican food. One dish that we did have that was good was the nachos. Location... more

Tortilla Flats is right across from the beach, and it is cheap-- those are about the only things it has going for it. It is generally not very clean, the beds are uncomfortable, the showers are not very good. The hammocks that line the "courtyard" are not fit for lounging due to their smell. But for $25/night, you probably get... more

I stayed four nights in Tortilla Flats during the week of Semana Santa. The month of April is extremely hot in Costa Rica and our room was unbearably hot at all hours of the day, including the middle of the night. The one small fan does not help what so ever, when we asked the manager for another he refused... more

Tortilla Flats was an oasis after a really awful night at the backpackers´ hostel down the road. Tortilla Flats is the cheapest ($20 for a room which could hold 4 people), cleanest hotel with hot water. The owners were friendly, but the hotel was constantly booked, making it difficult to stay more than one night. Those who were staying more... more

Well, Tortilla Flats is overrated, for sure! The owner and the manager really don't know how to run business, or they either really do. Reservations were made, but we realized we didn't need the last 2 days and they would not let us change it, this was about 15 days in advance. Then they ended up double booking the last... more

We just called ahead to see if there were any rooms. The number is in Lonley Planet. The food was good. The rooms were clean, but pretty basic. I would call it a backpacket hotel. During the low season the rooms are $20 for a room with a fan and three beds. Spend the extra 5 bucks and get air... more

Jan 23, 2007 My husband and recently stayed at Tortilla Flats. What we wanted was close proximity to the beach and to relax...and relax we did! The rooms are primitive, clean enough and no bells and whistles, but the price ($30 a night) was right. The owners were friendly, the restaurant terrific. They even let our dog park under the... more

stayed for two weeks over Christmas and then New Years, 2004 -2005. The room was substandard for the price, I would have preferred camping....the owner and her associate were more interested in the party atmosphere and were not helpful at all. It took 2 days to get a very important message from home to me which was unacceptable. If I... more

We stayed in Room #4 in Tortilla Flats for over two months and had the time of our lives. Dominical is full of young, active ticos and gringos. A lot of surfers, but also a lot who don't surf. Tortilla's was perfect for us (a young couple) looking to be near the action where it's easy to meet like-minded people.... more

My friend and I stayed here for two nights last August. The rooms are very basic. Our room had a bunkbed and a single bed. We also had AC. We were visiting during rainy season so it appeared as if water was backing up underneath the tile because after a night of heavy rain, the tile in our bathroom had... more
