My friend and I booked reservations at Hacienda Baru due to the reviews on this site. However, when we arrived in Quepos, we were incredibly disappointed to find out that this property is actually in Dominical - approx 2 hours south of Quepos. If you're planning to stay in Dominical, I'm sure this place will be great, sadly, but we... More

Stayed for 4 days with my 2 daughters, 18 and 21. We loved the location. Well, truthfully we loved everything about the place. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The activites were fun and laid back. We enjoyed being right in the jungle. Walking thru the jungle to the beach we saw so much wildlife. The food was fine... More

It wasn't terrible, but I've been to better places for similar pricing. The staff made no particular impression on any of us in our group. The location of the place is such that it's a long walk or a cab ride to get to any kind of shopping or restaurants - so you're isolated to some degree if you don't... More

My husband and I were very impressed with this place. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were fresh and clean, the food was so good (and breakfast is included with stay), and the vibe so relaxed. The grounds are well kept, the water is so fresh, and you can drink it right out of the faucet. The pool is... More

Hacienda Baru isn't fancy, but it has everything you need, plus the location and expertise in natural ecosystems that make it perfect. Its far enough from Quepos to be away from it all, yet close enough to the beach, the rainforest, and all the animals. We were extremely comfortable and loved all the nighttime noises, although they were loud for... More

The other reviews are right and right to be glowing about an environmental feelgood experience which largely seems to be the creation of Jack Ewing who runs the place and has spent more than 30 years allowing pasture to revert to the rainforest full of birds, mammals and more that it is now. We stayed in the cabins which were... More

What a great little place - perhaps the most memorable of our 2 week / 4 hotel vacation. We stayed in a "superior" cabin which was very spacious and included a fridge (if you are here in March you are going to need cool drinks!!!) You get to listen to the birds and the crickets and beetles singing and humming... More

Where to start? The birds - fabulous... rainforest trails to see monkeys and more .... wonderful! Relaxing round the pool just listening to the cacophany of rainforest sounds of frogs and insects... nothing like it! Easy-going staff, helpful and attentive ... lovely cabins with fresh coffee in the coffee maker each day.... we loved staying at Hacienda Baru and would... More

Just wanted to add support to the rest of the posts. What a great place. I am envious of Jack for having such a lovely peace of the world to live in. The highlights of our trip was a flock of toucans passing through the trees as we enjoyed the pool and a sloth hanging out in a low branch... More
