Some of the world's best places are at the end of its worst roads, and so it is with Rio Magnolia. Rio Magnolia is a unique blend of eco-retreat, open-air jungle lodge, and luxury B&B that works perfectly. Set in its own little valley on a ridge in the foothills above Dominical, it's a piece of paradise. There's all kinds... More

From the welcome from hosts Maureen and John, to the lovely architecture and layout of this lodge to the magnificence of the property and views, Rio Magnolia is truly awesome. The well-reported drive through the local towns (home to many of the friendly and helpful staff) and the dramatic drive up to this secluded mountain destination added to the fun... More

What a fantastic place. The treacherous drive through the local villages was worth the bumpiness as this place is truly pura vida. Beautiful views, great hikes to waterfalls, fresh coffee and awesome food daily. If you ever need to relax and reboot rio magnolia is the place to be.

Rio Magnolia is nothing short of magical. Before we stayed at Rio Magnolia we were at Hotel Parador which was nice but a bit of a manufactured resort experience. After staying at Rio Magnolia we decided to skip future trips to the touristy areas and hang out at the Rio Magnolia instead. John and Maureen are so intuitive and kind.... More

The owners, Maureen and John, have thought of every detail of this amazing lodge. The architecture of the building is beautiful as well as the scenery and accommodations. We were amazed by the breathtaking views of the rainforest, secluded hiking trails, gorgeous views of the sunrise and sunset from the pool and the balcony of our room. Staff are very... More

Great place for our honeymoon. Staff is attentive, but you feel like you have the place to yourself. Hosts are friendly and don't miss any detail. We loved the horseback riding trip to Nauyaca Waterfalls. I would not recommend too many road trips... just stay there. The road in takes a good while to get in or out, and the... More

I don't have much to add to the reviews posted by others except that it is all that they say and more! Everything was perfect and I don't say that lightly or often. To emphasize a few things - getting there is difficult, almost harrowing but then again I'm a city girl. The people who work there do that drive... More

Good things lie tucked away off the beaten path in Costa Rica. The Rio Magnolia Nature Lodge is a spectacular place tucked into a hillside deep in the jungle. Wildlife teems all about the grounds while friendly life (doggies Palomo, Tara and Brinca) add to the warm atmosphere inside. Hosts John and Maureen couldn't be more accommodating...from answering any and... More

One word to describe this place: Magical! You will experience a great deal of tranquility, nature, adventure, and so much more! Maureen & John (the owners) were great, and the staff (David, Tuco, Jonathan and the girls) so courteous and nice! they will make you feel like part of the family, even the dogs Palomo, Tara & Brinca were very... Rio Magnolia is off the beaten path but so worth it. Some people seemed to take day trips from here, but we stayed for only two nights so tried to soak in as much of the property -- its views, hiking, swimming -- as we could. John and Maureen are also incredible hosts. It's like they're inviting you into their... More
