My husband and I spent the first couple of nights of our honeymoon here and it was the perfect start! John and Maureen were the most gracious and welcoming hosts. We got there a little late in the evening (and it gets dark very quickly for those of you traveling to Costa Rico for the first time) and they sent... More

We were lucky enough to have stayed at Rio Magnolia for 5 nights in June. Our stay was perfect from start to end. Very private and the perfect seclusion away from our everyday lives. The owners as well as the staff were all fantastic. We enjoyed getting to know each one of them. All meals were excellent. I cannot say... More

I went to Rio Magnolia with my family for Christmas 2013. Although I was apprehensive about spending Christmas with people I didn't know, John and Maureen and their staff were very welcoming and kind. The hotel and facilities were well designed to give everyone privacy and comfort, but still had a personal and even intimate feel. The food was excellent,... More

Hope you and your daughters will come visit again! We really enjoyed spending Christmas with you. Love the Queen's mug! It has a special place on the shelf at the bar. More

We had a wonderful stay in Rio Magnolia. The place is simply beautiful, surraunded by the rainforest. We were visited by plenty of tropical birds, they just loved a tree in front of our balcony. The owners of the place are wonderful people, welcoming, intelligent, and caring. We loved the dogs, they accompanied us for our walks in the forest.... More

We stayed 3 nights at Rio Magnolia Lodge and it was one of the highlights of our 18 night trip to Costa Rica. John, Maureen and staff all friendly and super-helpful. The Lodge is in a fantastic setting deep in rainforest. We left our car in San Cristobal and had a lift up to the Lodge with Elicir. This worked... More

This true eco lodge is a beautiful and luxurious place. The lodge is absolutely stunning with décor that represents quality and at the same time, comfort. We were greeted with such hospitality from the owners John and Maureen that we felt instantly this was a wonderful place. The quests were also welcoming. From the minute we tasted the dinner appetizer,... More

Rio Magnolia really is a slice of heaven. My husband and I were fortunate enough to stay there for 5 nights at the end of our two week trip to Costa Rica and it was definitely the highlight for both of us. Some of the world's best places are at the end of its worst roads, and so it is with Rio Magnolia. Rio Magnolia is a unique blend of eco-retreat, open-air jungle lodge, and luxury B&B that works perfectly. Set in its own little valley on a ridge in the foothills above Dominical, it's a piece of paradise. There's all kinds... More

From the welcome from hosts Maureen and John, to the lovely architecture and layout of this lodge to the magnificence of the property and views, Rio Magnolia is truly awesome. The well-reported drive through the local towns (home to many of the friendly and helpful staff) and the dramatic drive up to this secluded mountain destination added to the fun... More
