We celebrated our 2 year anniversary by taking a drive up north to Sedona. We planned the entire trip around our 14 year old lab, who is basically like our child; starting with finding this spot because it claims to cater to dogs. Granted, the grounds are beautiful and the property is in a wonderful area, but we were so... More

We are sorry to hear you were frustrated. We only have one pet rule, and it is no doggies on the lawn. We can only plant sod in April or May and seed takes a long time to grow, so we ask that dogs go potty at designated locations. Plus, we want to keep our grass area for our 2-legged... More

We stayed at this Inn some time ago and can't wait to come back. Although we don't usually stay at the same place twice, we would surely stay here again. This Inn has so much character and charm. No "frilly" stuff here. We stayed in the Green room and we were completely satisfied with the room and everything in it.... More

I booked El Portal for the couple of nights in August to stay while visiting Grand Canyon. I Booked it a month advance and was told that, if I cancel whatever reason 15 days prior to arrival date I won't get charged. 21 days before the trip I had to call in for the cancellation due to family reasons so... The call came in through our answering service and she was told twice through the answering service what to do. She was told to send an email to cancel. The cancellation was to be handled at 9am. Then she called at 7am and was told that again the cancellation was to be taken are of at 9am. When we were... More

We are travelling with a dog and it is rare to find someplace this nice to stay. So it was quite a nice surprise to find el Portal. At the front desk, Terri was amazingly helpful and professional. Ann was also equally as accommodating but we didn't see her as much on the days we were there. The hotel is... More

What a marvelous hotel--more like a bed and breakfast. Rooms are uniquely decorated--choose your room online when you book your stay. We brought our two chihuahuas on their first-ever vacation with us. While the dogs weren't as well-behaved as we hoped, the staff at El Portal made us all feel at home! Great breakfast available, and the staff gives great... More

If you're looking for a comfortable and charming inn with friendly proprietors close enough for prime shopping, dining and walking yet removed enough from the hustle and bustle of the main thorough-fare, plus have a open-hearted welcome for dogs as a bonus, look no further than El Portal. The rooms are attractively designed and very spacious with a sitting area,... More

Beautiful, understated luxury in great location. Owners were attentive but respectful of privacy and helpful with ideas and reservations in the area. Walking distance to restaurants and beautiful galleries as well as spa services.

When was the last time you had a key for the main lodge after hours, offering wine and beer, etc., on the honor system? Free coffee. Nostalgia and utter serenity define this small, privately owned retreat. It's like being in a rustic 5-star resort from a classic movie, although conveniently in town. We, too have stayed in top places (re:... More

Although I consider myself to be a Ritz Carlton/Four Seasons/Mandarin Oriental kinda guy, I selected El Portal for my wife and me based on the strength of the TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Steve and Connie built this place from the ground up as their dream inn, complete with adobe walls, natural tones, amazing wooden beams and antique hardware.... More

As soon as you walk through the gates of El Portal, you realize the website does not do it justice. I stayed there with 3 girlfriends for 3 nights (we are all in our 30s) and we absolutely loved it! It was so quiet and we felt like we were tucked-away in a private B&B. We visited several other resort... More
