We stayed at the D.D. Gamble Guest Lodge during a birding trip to the Chiricahuas and SE Arizona in March. Although we were initially disappointed not to be able to stay closer to Cave Creek or other Portal birding hotspots, that feeling quickly dissolved as the charm and beauty of this beautiful, quiet spot unfolded. There were four women in... More

About 30 minutes or so from Portal, but a good birdsite.A peaceful valley, the outwash of the Chiricahuas on the east side of the mountains is very much desert, a long way from I 10. The road is good until the last two miles, which are rocky and rutted. Wonderful hosts who are devoted to their horses, big and little... More

My husband and I were on a birding vacation of southeast Arizona. I wanted to ride too and as soon as I learned about this place I made my decision. We stayed for one night and were the only guests. The lodge is very comfortable and lovely. The central heat was greatly appreciated after two nights in a cabin that... More

Sue and Richard, Thank you for your kind words. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We took some guests who arrived after you to the maze. Needless to say they were "amazed". Alicia showed Jackpot what you wrote about him. He now considers himself to be the Alpha horse of the herd. :). She also talked... More

Heading straight into the Chiricahua mountains down a long dirt road with the setting sun slowly disappearing behind the towering peaks looming in front of me, I was rewarded upon my arrival at "the Gamble", with a jaw-dropping & breathtaking view across the entire San Simon valley all the way to the peaks of the Peloncillos in New Mexico. Thus... More

We couldn’t have been more pleased, when, during a recent mid-week getaway, we stayed at the DD Gamble, a bed and breakfast, on a small ranch in a remote area of Southeast Arizona. The clean, comfortable, quiet room, and great service we got at DD Gamble is what we hope for when staying at Holiday Inn or Biltmore. But we... More

Bill and Peg, Thank you for a great review. Alicia and I consider ourselves fortunate to have a business where we meet so many great guests, like you both. We have found that people come to our lodge as guests and leave as friends. Tom and Alicia More

What a wonderful place to gather….with something for everyone! We had 3 diverse family groups staying here and kept Tom and Alicia on their toes. Somehow they managed to please us all. The food was sooooo good, It wouldn't be fair to comment on any one thing except maybe the home aid ice-cream….YUM. They greeted us with homemade cookies…that is... More

We stayed for 3 nights with Tom and Alicia. What attracted us to visit their lodge was that they not only welcome two legged animals but allowed us to bring our two dogs and my own horse. We love to find a place that will accept our animals; and, they made us all feel special. Even our young, constantly energetic... More

Good Morning, We enjoyed your visit as much as you did. It was great getting out and riding with you. The Canyon is a constantly changing scene even with all the water. You were right about Happy. He is now in a pen by himself and gorging himself. We should see some improvement within the next month. Tom and Alicia More

I organised a birding trip for 7 friends and we stayed with Tom and Alicia for 2 nights in May 2014. Their hospitality was unbeatable - more food than us Brits could eat and lovely, plentiful wine (thanks Tom!) and good rooms. The setting is stunning with plenty of birds in the vicinity, as well as easy access the birding... More

Hi David, et al, Thank you for the kind words. It was exciting to have all of you here, in spite of the language difficulties (one people separated by a common language). The next time you come, I will lend you one of my Stetsons and make sure it is the clean one. Tom and Alicia More

From the moment we were escorted to onto the property we were shown courteous attention and gracious living. Tom and Alicia are the perfect hosts--attentive to details while observing privacy boundaries. The meals were lovely and the company charming. The second night we were introduced to another couple, and our hosts charmed everyone and made certain we were all comfortable.

Jennifer and David, We greatly enjoyed your visit here. By the way, we spoke to the lady in Portal who controls the Elegant Trogons. She promised us that on your next visit, she will ensure that one is available up close. If not here, we know another local where they are readily observable. Tom and Alicia More

I stayed at DD Gamble for two nights during a birding trip to SE Arizona with 7 other birders.
