My wife and I needed a getaway and took the 2.5 hour drive to downtown Phoenix. We found this quaint hotel with room names like Marylin Monroe suite,Govenor Suite. We quickly learned oldest building in downtown Phoenix used to be old school house. We asked for third floor as that is were pool area was located. Rooms are very small... More

What I Loved: The staff were friendly and accommodating, even when the lobby was filled with people checking in/out (I stayed during a convention). Disney's Tower of Terror must have been modeled after this hotel (or one VERY similar). It's kept its original charm and details. I half expected a ghost in heels and a fur stole to wave me... More

Was skeptical after reading reviews of this hotel. I am so glad we decided to stay here. The hotel staff were pleasant and very helpful. There is so much history in this hotel it was fun to look on each of the floors. Our room was at the end of the hall and we heard no more noise than you... More

This is an older, but charming hotel, that is conveniently located in downtown Phoenix and great if you going to baseball, basketball or concert. Very reasonably priced. Parking is either valet (for a charge) or there are parking lots around the area that are a little cheaper. Best to do some parking research before going!

I recently attended a tradeshow at the convention center in Phoenix and the San Carlos was recommended as a hotel option. The San Carlos offered great customer service by Desiree and Christina, it was quaint and quiet, had a small fitness room, with a good location and it was reasonably priced. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to friends... More

A rather tired old facility with a tiny room, tiny shower (no bath, no big deal) and a showerhead that would have nicked my skull had I been a couple of inches taller. Also, they need a balancing valve so the water doesn't turn hotter when someone else in an adjacent room turns it on. Now for the good news:... More

Very handy location if you are in town for an event at the convention center (I was). It is a little rough around the edges but it's got the basics. There is a large private outdoor sitting area around the small pool. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Restaurant on the first floor is good. $2 public transportation tram ride... More

I stayed here on a forced extra overnight, but found it quite acceptable and enjoyable. The major drawbacks were the lack of ability to control room temperature and very slow wifi, but neither of those were a particular problem for me. The staff was especially friendly, the location was great, and the bed was comfortable. I would certainly stay here... More

Perhaps I went in with lowered expectations after reading reviews and that's what made my stay okay. One also must realize that each night can see different results (the maid you get, the weather, the other guests). I was lucky to have a clean room, good weather which made the room comfortable, and quiet guests. I was also at the... More

I needed an extra night in Phoenix and since I was traveling alone thought I'd try a "boutique" hotel with "courtesies of a gentler era". Coming up Central from the airport I had a bad feeling about the neighborhood I passed through and the intersection the hotel was at. Few rooms could have possibly seen the actual (modern) downtown skyline... More
