If your looking to not travel far away from home but want to feel like you have then I highly suggest this place. The staff is very friendly. The first time we stayed there we stayed in a studio efficiency. We booked late so we ended up getting two beds, but oh well. The room was nice. Had a good... More

I have had mixed reviews about this place. I have been a frequent visitor over the last few years and I cannot emphasize how much I enjoy the serenity of the river, peaceful grounds and wildlife around the cabins. It is a nice, cool getaway for Phoenix residents in summer time. My last visit was very nice. We had booked... More

My husband and I were traveling through Arizona and chose Kohl’s Ranch from an internet search. The property was lovely! We stayed in a two-bedroom house that was impeccably clean and had all the amenities we could want. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our requests. We were on the creek and enjoyed wine on the back porch at... More

We've stayed here a few times in the Spring and Summer and really enjoyed it. It's not an overly fancy hotel but if your looking for a laid back getaway in the woods you've come to the right place. The kids really loved the backyard play set and the sports court plus playing by the creek was a real treat... More

I was in serious need of a "get-away" so we booked two nights at Kohl's Ranch -- our first time to stay there. We had a two-bedroom cabin, creek-side, with a terrific deck and its own hot tub. Being there on week nights before school lets out, it was very peaceful and pleasant. My guess is that summer weekends are... More

My wife and I ran up to Kohl's Ranch last weekend. What a great place. We loved it so much, we decided to book a family vacation in June. We stayed in a one-bedroom and it was the perfect size. It had a kitchenette, but we did not use it. Tonto Creek runs through the property and they have a... More

My husband and I decided to go on a little getaway for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We stayed in a 1 bedroom cabin overlooking the creek. It had a full kitchen, bath, fireplace and a whirlpool tub on the deck. It was beautiful and so relaxing. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed listening to the creek with the... More

This is a Diamond Resorts Property that we traded our timeshare for. We stayed in a 2-Bed, 2-Bath cabin. It had a spacious kitchen, was clean with a living/dinning room area as you entered. There is a stream running behind the cabins with a wonderful little green area with BBQ's. It sits amid the forest and is 17 miles from... More

This was an interesting hotel experience for me. About a month ago I tried to call to book a hotel stay for me and my family, but the lady was quite rude on the phone. The website was not working, and I was frustrated. She insisted the website worked and I could book my stay on the site. I asked... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
When you first arrive at Kohl's Ranch Lodge in Payson, Arizona you will be sure you have truly cornered a little piece of paradise. The location is what creates this setting, which borders on perfection. Kohl's Ranch Lodge is at the base of the Mogollon Rim and on the banks of Tonto Creek. All of this comes together in the largest Ponderosa Pine Forest in the world. This stunning, off the beaten path section of Arizona's back country was made most famous by author Zane Grey, who stirred up vivid imagery of a striking land throughout his tales of the Old West. Not to mention, the people here are known for their historically famous, western hospitality. You will revel in the casual and friendly atmosphere that makes each stay here an inviting experience that leaves visitors wanting to come back for more. Enjoying Payson, Arizona: This area has been dubbed the "heart of Arizona" because of its history and scenery. It is truly a stunning and unpredictable back country area of Arizona. Here, you may even experience snowfall in winter months. While you are staying in your subtly elegant surroundings, you can enjoy a multitude of activities. This is an area that was practically made for experiencing horseback riding along the dusty trails. Of course, this also means the country is ideal for similar activities such as hiking. Most of the area surrounding Payson is the Tonto National Forest, part of the United States Forest Service, so you will find a well-maintained park service to enjoy for many of your outdoor adventures. Other areas are under the jurisdiction of tribal governments, which means they are also kept up. In some areas, fishing is another very popular outdoor event to enjoy. From the Tonto Natural Bridge to the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park to the Tonto Apache Indian Reservation, you will find scenery and activities in or around Payson, Arizona to fill your days. Kohl's Ranch Lodge Accommodations: After a long day of hiking, biking or fishing, you may want to simply relax and unwind in your private room, maybe even bask in the air conditioning and watch a movie on the DVD player provided in each room. You can also enjoy the outdoors without ever leaving the grounds. Serve up some BBQ from the cookout area and soak or swim in either the outdoor hot tub or heated outdoor pool. You will love your time at Kohl's Ranch Lodge. ... more   less
