We had a great weekend with friends. We stayed in the lodge (all the cabins were booked). The rooms are simple done, but we didn't spend a lot of time in our rooms. We spent most of our time by the creek, in the pool and in the grassy area. What a great place! Everyone at the front desk was... More

I decided to take my husband to Kohl's Ranch Lodge for our anniversary after having been there some 55 years ago on a rare family outing. The lodge has evolved into a first class resort from the rustic cabin I remember as a ten year old. I loved both visits and my husband wants to move to Payson! The amenities... More

Just returned from a 2 week stay at Kohl's Ranch in Payson, AZ. This is our 4th trip there and it just keeps getting better. We stayed in one of the older 2 bedroom cabins on the creek which is our preference. The new ones are very nice and much larger but lack the rustic feel that we appreciate. Jacqueline... More

We were delighted with our cabin! It was spacious, and had a wonderful large porch overlooking the stream. We stayed for 2 nights, and are thinking about returning later this year for a little longer stay. The staff at the Lodge are very friendly and helpful. The only negative was that we both found the menu at the Lodge's restaurant... More

We just spent a week here with our daughter, her husband and their 5 children. We thoroughly enjoyed our creekside two bedroom home. The children had an amazing, memorable time participating in all the planned activities. They truly enjoyed the early morning pony rides and the 2 hour ride up to the waterfall. Both the stable hands and the hotel... More

While the grounds are pristine, I found most everything else just kind of so-so.. We had a studio, which was clean and efficient, but seemed very "motelish". I'm sure the cabins along the creek are more spacious and comfortable for a family of four, or larger. Anyhow, the restaurant was mediocre at best. The server was off in her own... More

The best part of the trip was the beautiful grounds. Other than that, the internet was completely out for our entire 3 day stay and the front desk said they had received several complaints but there wasn't anything that they could do except give us the number for the technical support. I wasted over an hour on the phone with... More

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Regrettably, we have been experiencing connectivity issues with our wifi provider; however, you can rest assured we are working diligently to correct this. Furthermore, we take our security very seriously for our guests here at Kohl’s Ranch Lodge, and your experience was certainly unacceptable and unusual for our resort. We... More

There was an extra "amenities charge" on top of the room rate, which was explained as the charge for using the pool and jacuzzi (and possibly the small unfancy fitness room?). We wanted to use the jacuzzi, but the jets were not working. also, we expected to eat in the advertised attached "steak house," but only the bar was open... More

We only stayed one night but we had a great time. There is a lot of thinhs to do on the well groomed beautiful property. My 6 year old loved the creek along the property where he fished with his pole and caught crawdads, he was so happy. We brought our own steaks and cooked them on the gas grill... More

After reading some of the reviews, we didn't know what to expect. We ate lunch at the onsite restaurant before check-in. The lunch was fabulous! It is evident that great pride is taken in the preparation of the meals. When it was time for check-in, we were greeted by friendly staff and baked cookies. This was because we share a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
When you first arrive at Kohl's Ranch Lodge in Payson, Arizona you will be sure you have truly cornered a little piece of paradise. The location is what creates this setting, which borders on perfection. Kohl's Ranch Lodge is at the base of the Mogollon Rim and on the banks of Tonto Creek. All of this comes together in the largest Ponderosa Pine Forest in the world. This stunning, off the beaten path section of Arizona's back country was made most famous by author Zane Grey, who stirred up vivid imagery of a striking land throughout his tales of the Old West. Not to mention, the people here are known for their historically famous, western hospitality. You will revel in the casual and friendly atmosphere that makes each stay here an inviting experience that leaves visitors wanting to come back for more. Enjoying Payson, Arizona: This area has been dubbed the "heart of Arizona" because of its history and scenery. It is truly a stunning and unpredictable back country area of Arizona. Here, you may even experience snowfall in winter months. While you are staying in your subtly elegant surroundings, you can enjoy a multitude of activities. This is an area that was practically made for experiencing horseback riding along the dusty trails. Of course, this also means the country is ideal for similar activities such as hiking. Most of the area surrounding Payson is the Tonto National Forest, part of the United States Forest Service, so you will find a well-maintained park service to enjoy for many of your outdoor adventures. Other areas are under the jurisdiction of tribal governments, which means they are also kept up. In some areas, fishing is another very popular outdoor event to enjoy. From the Tonto Natural Bridge to the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park to the Tonto Apache Indian Reservation, you will find scenery and activities in or around Payson, Arizona to fill your days. Kohl's Ranch Lodge Accommodations: After a long day of hiking, biking or fishing, you may want to simply relax and unwind in your private room, maybe even bask in the air conditioning and watch a movie on the DVD player provided in each room. You can also enjoy the outdoors without ever leaving the grounds. Serve up some BBQ from the cookout area and soak or swim in either the outdoor hot tub or heated outdoor pool. You will love your time at Kohl's Ranch Lodge. ... more   less
