I spent one week at Mayra's Spanish school, whilst doing an organised homestay through the shool. For a beginner the lessons were very good, and covered all the basic vocab and grammar. My teacher Emma was great - and I learnt a lot, especially in our 30 minute breaks where we would chat about all sorts! My homestay was fantastic... More

I stumbled upon Mayra's Spanish School and apartments shortly after I arrived in Banos. I was looking to take Spanish lessons and I was staying at a hostel a bit of a walk out of the town centre. I ended up switching to Mayra's apartments while I took lessons for three weeks. I had classes 4 hours a day, Monday-Friday.... More

We were heading to Banos frm Quito and were looking for accomodation. After swapping some emails we found this place little bit overpriced for us. After some days, we did a decission to rent a studio from Mayra (top floor, roof terrce etc) for 40USD/night. Plan was to stay here for two nights and move forward. Upon our arrival Mayra... More

The structure was really good, in two weeks we learned most of the grammar and improved our vocabulary. Now, we can have (basic) conversations with locals which feels great. My teacher Emma was the greatest, every day she kept my attention for 4 hours! Thank you.

I have attended Spanish schools in Mexico and Guatemala, and Mayra's is similar to those. At Mayra's, classes are one on one, which is intense. The quality of instruction depends on your teacher, and I had a good one. My Spanish is advanced, so the class format was informal. My friends were beginners, so their programs were formal. Overall I... More

I didn't stay in the apartments so can't comment on them, but I spent a week in Banos taking Spanish lessons here and would like to describe my experience. The school itself is the top floor a small apartment building and has quite an informal, improvised feel with furniture and decor that is already several years past needing a makeover.... More

Firstly, this more of a tutor-type affair than a school. You have to work around the lives of the teachers rather than the other way around. Nothing wrong with that, especially somewhere the size of Banos just don't expect a organised language school. We were taught by Mayra but didn't stay in the apartments. From what I briefly saw, people... More

I spent four weeks studying with Mayra and staying half the time in her lovely studio apartment, literally six steps from my classroom and the other in the wonderful Reyes family home. An amazing experience and well worth the time and effort. My understanding of Spanish grammar is much clearer and although it is an ongoing process my command of... More

Mayra has a wonderful Spanish School. At this school you will find experienced, native speakers with university degrees that know how to work with people at individual levels, taking into consideration your learning skills and your knowledge of the language. It is a fun learning experience. I have even seen children there learning with their parents but in a different... More
