We arrived on Christmas for a two night stay. Staff was disoriented due to the holiday, but still very accommodating. We enjoyed the sheep ranch demo, group dinner and dance entertainment that night, and watched a beautiful sunset across the ranch as we made phone calls to our families. The next day we were booked on a glacier trek...the bus... More

For us it was too far out of town and not a restful place. Rooms were not clean and mattresses were sagging down to the wood planks. Bathrooms small. Breakfast was ok, not great. Personnel was friendly and nice.

For many, the charm of this place is its isolation and quiet, but it did not appeal to us. We were booked here by a tour agency, and had little idea of what to expect. It is a working sheep ranch, so you get an idea of life in Patagonia. They have a sheep shearing demonstration, and a brief but... More

A amazing place situated directly on the Lago Argentino which offered a wunderfull stay for us, including horse back riding, sheep shearing show and some more background information about the work on a sheep Farm in Patagonia. We like to submit our thanks for the hospitality to the wunderfull farm owner Marcos, with whom we spent a very nice Christmas... More

We have just escaped from this hotel after spending 2 out of our 3 nights there. It was recommended to us by Argentinian family and we thought we had booked a room with a view which was perfect to celebrate our recent engagement. Instead we were placed into a room with no privacy overlooking the reception with decrepit and dirty... More

Rooms were very tired and you are "stuck" here unless you have your own car - the staff will arrange expensive taxis for you if you ask! The owner doesn't appear to care much for his guests. We had friends of the owner come into our room at 2am by mistake and when we raised it no apology, or even... More

We spent 3 nights here while traveling Argentina. This estancia gave us the opportunity to experience a more authentic country ranch life. it's friendly staff and animals took good care of us. plus location gave easy acess to the lake and the glacier. We enjoyed the sheep herding/sheering demonstration, with Tio, a morning horse ride with the charming Marcos, and... More

My wife and I were not excited initially when the travel agency booked this hotel, but it was AWESOME! The ranch is breathtaking. The rooms could use some work with the heating and shower water pressure, but it was not too bad. Only wifi in the lobby, but it reached our room though. The staff was top notch and friendly.... We spent several days at El Galpon in March 2014 as part of a trip around Argentina, Chile and Brazil to celebrate my wife's big (50) birthday. The whole trip was amazing (thank you Lucy Thurston, Travel Counsellors and Journey Latin America) and the welcome by everyone we met in the three countries was exceptional. El Galpon was a microcosm... More

Plus: The location is excellent; outside of the city of Calafate, but with an ideal access to the main road and the glaciers. It is the perfect hotel to relax at, participate in their numerous activities, read a book next to the fire, and take walks in their amazing property in order to observe the many and "exotic" animals! It... More
