We spent several days at El Galpon in March 2014 as part of a trip around Argentina, Chile and Brazil to celebrate my wife's big (50) birthday. The whole trip was amazing (thank you Lucy Thurston, Travel Counsellors and Journey Latin America) and the welcome by everyone we met in the three countries was exceptional. El Galpon was a microcosm... More

Plus: The location is excellent; outside of the city of Calafate, but with an ideal access to the main road and the glaciers. It is the perfect hotel to relax at, participate in their numerous activities, read a book next to the fire, and take walks in their amazing property in order to observe the many and "exotic" animals! It... More

Quaint, Comfortable, Quiet and just totally enjoyable! We loved our stay so much. The food was great...a lot of meat so be prepared. The estancia is so gorgeous and well maintained. We stayed for 3 nights and wished it could have been longer. The second night we did the sheep tour excursion and it was amazing. Out of all the... More

We spent one day in this ranch and we absolutely enjoyed the calm and authenticity of the place, as well as of the people who work there and took very good care of us. This is not a 5 star hotel as some reviews below might have seem to think, it is a old ranch beautifully converted in a very... More

Friendly staff, great location and a homely atmosphere. We stayed for two nights, and enjoyed the open spaces and free access to walk around the ranch. The room was good and simple, but a little tired around the edges, which was part of its charm. Located some distance from El Calafate, it was perfect for visiting the glacier and provided... More

We stayed here for three nights which was probably about the right length of time. The place was once a full time sheep ranch but now the main income is from the hotel/tourists but they maintain a flock of 500 or so sheep for demonstrations. We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel/estancia is arranged so there is one big... More

This is a great place to come if you want to experience true Patagonia - big lakes, sheep, grassland, pampas, wind, etc etc. If you want access to t-shirt shops and bars, stay in El Calafate! The staff is very warm and welcoming and there is a lot to do - hiking, birds, bicycling, fishing, horseback, etc. Not to mention... More

We stayed at this Estancia during a recent visit. We arrived late doe to some changes in our travel reservations but were warmed greeted by the hostess upon our arrival. We were told that we had the ranch at our access to explore as much as we wanted. Despite the late hour we were seated for a delicious dinner. The... More

This working estancia is a perfect blend of luxury, farm life and breath-taking scenery. It is situated on an isolated rise above Lake Argentina, giving it sweeping views over the blue water, paddocks of horses and pools of flamingos, upland geese, ibises and black-necked swans. On a clear day, you can see as far as Mount Fitzroy. It is an... More

First of all the entire staff was excellent - especially Mary Jo (Maria Josefina), Noellie and Frank. One of the first things we did was take a beautiful trail ride with Mary Jo. The horses were very calm and the scenery was gorgeous. Some of the Kelpie dogs followed along most of the way. We went though the pastures and... More
