My boyfriend and I are in Bariloche 2 or 3 times a year, and we've been going there together for the past 3 years. My boyfriend has been going for the past umpteen, so he knows all the hotels. We have usually stayed in the center of town, for convenience sake. They've usually been rather run down, with poor service, or just sort of generic looking hotels.

The Villa Huinid was lovely surprise. Situated about a 20-30 minute walk from the city center (civic center, I think it's called), it is just next door to Design Hotel and en route to the fabulous (and not yet experienced) Llao Llao. Design Hotel is schmancy, but I preferred the home-yness of this place. The decor was warm, and the front desk was very helpful and polite. It has an almost country-kitchen type feel (you know, with the powder blues, and the mauve-pinks and the ducks everywhere), but it's more sophisticated, less hokie.
