This historic hotel has played host to Butch Cassidy in 1901 (he stayed with another man and a woman in the same room--who knew 1901 was such fun?) and Antoine de Ste.-Exupery in 1930. and frankly, it doesn't seem to have changed a whole lot since then. The grand staircase leads to clean, adequate rooms with clean, adequate bedding and... More

Not quite knowing what to expect, I stood and looked around for several minutes, taking in all the items that decorate the bar/restaurant area. The place is 'tired' (I wouldn't call it run down) but I loved it. They also came to our rescue when our flight from Esquel to Buenos Aires was cancelled and we had to travel overnight... More

This hotel may have been very grand in its time, but is showing major signs of wear and tear. The bedroom was in the main part of the hotel, and away from the bar and hence very quiet. The bedroom was spacious, but the radiator leaked, as did the sink when you used the taps - clearly long standing problems.... More

We did not stay at this hotel but popped in for a beer as we heard that it was interesting. Spent a pleasant hour here people watching a taking photos of this old bar that seems trapped in time - we half expected Butch Cassidy to drop in and join us. Stick to the Cilmes Beer - we tried the... More

Amazing bar – with white coated waiters and a huge selection of dusty bottles, some of which looked to date from before the Spanish invasion ! The unique charm was matched in the bedroom, in a “modern” wing out the back and had a psychedically lurid purple bathroom suite. I can't imagine there is anything quite like it, anywhere. Other... This place fairly reeks of history and character. We love to stay in slightly oddball spots, and don't mind a hotel being quite frayed at the edges- in fact, we always choose character over sanitised averageness. Our room, admittedly, lacked the space required to swing a gerbil but the bathroom was surpisingly spacious and had a real bath. But the... More

This hotel has a great bar and interesting history (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid supposedly stayed there) but don't let that lure you into making a reservation. The rooms look like they were last refurbished in the 1960s, the beds have greying sheets and blankets with suspect stains, and the bathrooms ancient, slimy bath mats and threadbare towels. The...
