A very bad experience. While this hotel is very stylishly decorated, characterful and spotlessly clean, unfortunately it had no guests (other than me) so the management had clearly not bothered to employ any staff other than one surly woman who let me in after I had banged on the door for a good few minutes. I arrived late because of... More

El Refugio del Pintor was not our first option, as there are so many hotels with great reviews in Tilcara. But, I'm glad it ended up being where we stayed. The hotel is just beautiful. The rooms are carefully designed with local and tasteful furnishings. The common area was delightful, with a cozy sitting area with space near the fire... More

We just got back from Tilcara and Jujuy. We enjoyed the Rufugio del Pintor. It is a rustic hotel that fits into this small out of the way place. Our rooms were quiet, though if it were more crowded you might have some noise from the courtyard. Since it is out of the city center up on a hill, the... More

we went to this hotel because it was recommended by a friend and what a great surprise. The entrance is a simple door and the front of the house is an original adobe wall. They kept their original entrance as is an historical building , were a famous painter used to live. But the interior its been renovated and its... More

What a sanctuary! Easy walk from the bus station, town centre, restraunts and the near by historic ruins. Fantastic little Northern Argentinia town. Highly recommend a visit. And it's on the way through to Bolivia if you are going that way. The hotel is quite new and is built all in traditional methods using local materials. Very cosy and interesting... More

The rooms at El Refugio del Pintor are stylish, but the hotel lacks good on-site management. The on-site staff - if you can find them - is at best indifferent. We had reserved and had confirmed two rooms for five persons, but at check-in the staff initially insisted that we take three rooms instead. It took about half an hour... More

We travel independently and took a 2 day tour with a local travel agent. They booked us at this hotel and they were very friendly and accommodating. We were very tired after a very long day and they ordered food from a restaurant and delivered it to our room. The place is lovely and we wished we could have stayed... More
