We feel our 3 days at this hostel can be accurately summarized by the following haiku-inspired composition: No running water Little electricity Poop in the toilet We arrived dirty We left even dirtier So covered in grime The breakfast was lame They ran out of oranges Like seriously? One night we returned A stranger was in our room He had... More

Our private bedroom was large and clean. There is also a nice pub on the terrasse which I think is a great addition. However, things got a little weird during the night as we could not sleep due to super loud music from the building next door. The following morning, we figured it out. There is a dance/rave club just... More

We stayed there only for a night because they were full occupied, but the night we spent there we enjoyed very much - great location, great service, excellent!! Breakfast and a nice bar at nights. Two bad things - wifi, and a lot stairs. Great place to stay in BA

I had a very nice time there! The staff was very kind and helpfull! The house is very well located, close to Subte and also many touristic areas are at walking distance! The hostel is very clean, the rooms are nice although I had a noisy bed! I would go back there if I have the chance to come back... More

There is a great feel to this hostel, everyone gets together in the bar in the evening and then ventures out at about 12pm...if you can wait that long! There is usually a free event organised each day. We did the spanish class which I can definitely recommend. Kitchen, chill out area, bar, computers (often occupied), filtered water (I wish... More

Very recommendable! Great value for money. You cannot get a better location in Buenos Aires. The building has a beautiful patio and a nice cafe on the top floor (roof). Weak point are kitchen facilities - very very basic - not really suitable for cooking. On the other hand, there are lots of nice restaurants and bakeries within a walking... More

This was my first time travelling alone and a great hostel to start in. The terrace on the top is easy to socialise and meet everyone and I stayed a week and spent my entire time with people! Only downside is the rooms and bathrooms aren't very clean. But other than this I would definitely recommend.

I loved my time at Portal del Sur. I returned there at a later part of my trip because I had such a great experience the first time around. The staff was great: Gabriel, Diego, etc. They were very helpful, arranging tours, activities, club recommendations, etc. The rooftop terrace & bar was the best part of the hostel. It had... More

The hostel has a great staff, very friendly and helpful, and the location is good if you're opting for the Plaza de Mayo option, but most rooms have no windows, and they do not inform you of that in advance when you book ahead. Something else worth mentioning is that rooms on the top floor get a lot of noise... More

within walking distance of Plaza de Mayo, Florida street, etc. The staff were SUPER helpful with everything. Our rooms were excellent...but the common areas are a little shabby and worn. It was very clean though. The internet was excellent everywhere in the complex.

Staying in Montserrat

Neighborhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighborhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
