Our reservation got canceled by the modern hotel we booked in San Telmo (nightmare - avoid Prestigia.com) and they booked us in to this hotel instead. Although the location is actually quite far from the hotel we booked and San Telmo neighborhood, it was lovely in it's own way. The building is unmarked and does not look like a hotel... More

Booked the least expensive room in the hotel, however this was still US$100 per night and I had expected better for the price. The hotel markets itself as an old building with fresh/modern decor. However, the room had not been cleaned adequately, there were large cracks in the wall, musty smell and moths. The bathroom needed rennovating. We spoke to... More

We stayed here after coming back from a few days at an estancia before moving on to Mendoza. We wanted a hotel where we could crash for two nights without too much stress. This was fine, but did not blow me away by any means. I wasn't a huge fan of the neighborhood, and you had to walk quite a... More

Drea05. We are very sad to hear that you had an average experience in our hotel. It is a real shame that during your stay you did not go to Aramburu resto, which is located only 20 meters away from our hotel. By the way, it is the best restaurant according to Trip Advisor. We had other options near by... More

A beautiful boutique hotel in San Telmo this hotel was an oasis in the enormous city. The welcome was warm, the room beautiful, the garden peaceful and quiet, the breakfast superb. This hotel is excellent value for money. A highlight of our visit to Buenos Aries was hiring bikes for a day in San Telmo and safely cycling the bike paths... More

The room was clean and quiet. The AC worked well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were good. The original artwork throughout was a nice touch. The area isn't the best, but my wife and I walked back every night and we never faced any problems. We arrived on a Sunday, just in time for the San Telmo... More

It was a very lovely hotel with decent interior and breakfast. Full stop. However, every night, we struggled with quite a lot of mosquito. We asked them for an aerosol but all they gave us was mosquito killing scented paper (?) and apparently it did not work... Location is ok - it is not center center but the tube station... More

The hotel is at the edge of the San Telmo area and a long walk to Puerto Madero and Plaza de Maya. Other areas require a taxi or the subway. That is the main reason I gave it an average rating. I prefer hotels that are more walking friendly. As a woman on her own, I also would feel very... More

A very beautiful hotel in which I stayed for 4 nights during my recent trip to Latin America. Actually this was by far the best accommodation I had in terms of elegance and beauty. Everything there is so well chosen. And the service was perfect – two sisters (Caroline and Laura), and the staff. My room was big and with... More

This is more a bed & breakfast than a boutique hotel. Large room felt like an apartment in this beautiful old home. The maid serves a breakfast of fruits, medialunas (croissants), and eggs. Owners are very helpful with bottled water, laundry ($10 a bag), taxis, whatever you need. They used an honest exchange rate. Don't ask the hotel to do... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
1890 Casa Boutique and Art Gallery, is located in a centennial house between San Telmo and Montserrat. Spacious and welcoming, this 1870 residence evokes alternately high society lineage and numerous immigrant families in that feverish and changeable Buenos Aires of the 19th century ending.  The gallery’s ceiling fans spread their shy breeze over some unprepared guest, grateful to feel the drowsy magic of a timeless afternoon. The draughtboard frames with its iron columns the leafy garden. Ancient trees alternate with creepers, flowers and a small fountain to create an old time atmosphere that lives in the whole house, intertwined with this green environment. Jasmines, white camellias, lilies, honeysuckles and chamomiles flood the interiors with their particular views and remarkably nice fragrances.  The decoration contemporary style didn’t dispense with the materials of the original building. Upholding its privileged historical location, 1890 preserve the traditional architecture of an antique and distinguished Buenos Aires house: patios and galleries, thick plaster walls, brick vaulted ceilings and solid doors and windows, all with a quality and nobility only usual from past times.  The Art gallery is not limited to a single place to concentrate there all its material. On the contrary, it is structural and conceptually integrated to the entire house. Therefore, the space-work link is a "decentralized" experience so guests are able to enjoy it not only in the common areas as but also in their rooms.  The comfortable Suites, each one of them with their own identity, share remarkable details like original pieces of art, design objects, huge King Sized beds and charming Egyptian cotton lines. 1890 Casa Boutique & Art Gallery, offers the guest not only a quiet stay, full of historical reminiscences, but also a renewed concept of art and design, an strategic location and an atmosphere of comfort, warmth and hospitality. ... more   less
