I have just spent 10 nights in this fabulous hotel. From day one I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel totally at home. I stayed in room 205, a delightfully pretty room on the back of the Mansion facing the garden/courtyard. My room was clean, quiet and offered everything I could possibly need for my comfort. Christian... More

The hotel is beautiful and has tremendous period features. This comes at a price, however. The soundproofing in your rooms we were in was poor and they were very dark - great for coolness, but maybe request a room with a window . The main issue for us was plumbing. Lack of water at all was fixed very quickly ,... More

Spent 2 nights here over New Year and would definitely go back: faded grandeur, quirkiness and very helpful charming staff. Christian was welcoming and very friendly. We had a fabulous tango lesson from Claudio. It is ideally situated too - in San Telmo and very easy walking distance from Puerto Madero, Florida etc.

Elegant old mansion in the heart of San Telmo. The hotel is decorated with antique furnishings and is very charming as first glance but the hotel, overall, could use a little TLC... some of the furnishings & rugs are in need of a good cleaning, the linens and sheets had some stains and were tattered... An overall refreshing is needed.... More

Nice and charming hotel in a middle of San Telmo area. Very nice and friendly staff. We took some tango lessons and these were good, but only in Spanish, and this was kind of complicated. Good we had a friend to translate. Well.. I hope they have rooms with windows going outside, as our rooms had only windows that lead... More

What a great first impression , a massive 16 foot tall door leads to a beautiful sitting room. The theme of Argentine tango is on almost every wall , and continues throughout all 4 stories. A large array of room types ranging from street front with balcony to quiet interior rooms without Windows to the outside. A good breakfast is... More

At first when we pulled up into this street,we thought we had made a mistake of staying here. How wrong we were. It's in a fabulous location near a square where we walked most evening for great food, wine and free dancing and singing. The staff are helpful and friendly, most of all,the manager Christian. Nothing was too much trouble. I had... More

Authentic hotel from Buenos Aires. Amazing building decorated with paintings of tango everywhere. Nice wooden reception and stairs. Wonderful entrance hall. Great breakfast room which was an ancient dancing room. Very distant staff, correct but indifferent. Old-fashioned room a little tiny and not very comfortable. Bedding ok. Tiny bathroom with sink, bidet and bath. The cheapest room has only one... More

Loved it. If you want the experience of staying in a fashionable mansion of a once wealthy Buenos Aires family, this is the place to choose. Pictures on-line do not do this place justice at all. Price is very reasonable.

The staff is nice and hotel is beautiful. It is full of historic character. Reserve a room with a window instead of an internal room. The breakfast is not good, but that is not uncommon in Argentina. It is a very good value. We are from Greenwich village NYC and so we felt at home in San Telmo. Recoletto seemed... More

Staying in San Telmo

Neighborhood Profile
San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.
