I only spent one night here but the staff is helpfull and friendly and the hotel has what 4-star hotels need to have as far as servicelevel and amenities go. The location is central, close to Retiro Station (which is not as scary as Tripadvisor suggests, at least in my opinion) and close to the shoppingstreets and Galerias Pacificos in... More

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was great. It is an old building that is gradually being refurbished. Service was great all throughout, from Reception to the wait staff at breakfast. We needed a private car to take us far and back, and they arranged without a problem. The room we got was kind of small... More

I stayed at the Dorá for 2 nights during my stay in Buenos Aires and really enjoyed it. The location is unbeatable, very close to the heart of Buenos Aires as well as to Recoleta. The staff was very attentive and always ready to help. The rooms are modern and comfy and there's free wi-fi throughout the hotel. It's great... More

Yes hotel is old charm but staff and comfortable beds make it a good option. Location is great. Street in front of hotel will soon be pedestrian only. Bathrooms are small. Windows in bedroom open. Staff help with every detail or question you have. Dining room and small bar area is used by hotel guest, intimate and serve good food.... More

If you're looking for a standard luxury hotel where you could be anywhere in the world, don't stay here. Step inside Dora's doors, and you feel like you stepped back 50 years. Everything from the excellent service, to the lifts, to the glass courtyards, to the music, and the decor and artwork combines to make you wonder how she survived... More

The hotel Gran Dora is old-world and charming. The older men staffing the front desk are MOST helpful and speak good English. Our room has a good king sized bed, and is most comfortable. Bathroom an bedroom are spotlessly clean. The wifii is fast and free, continental breakfast more than adequate, service old fashioned and impeccable. The hotel has a... More

Great location. near Florida and San Martin Square. After that its all downhill. The rooms do not look anything like the pictures, it is old and run down and needs a lot of refurbishment. Spend a bit more money and go for one of the many excellent hotels in the area.

The rooms are small, the rooms desperately in need of an upgrade, the air conditioner was broken and it was way too noisy to open the window for air....breakfast ok but not value for money

The mattress was terrible, the rolling shutter was broken so I didn't get any natural light and air. The staff wasn't very welcoming. Breakfast is alright but nothing special. Swimming pool was closed when I went. Book here only if everywhere else is already booked.

Dorá is typical of a whole series of old-building, old-time hotels in downtown Buenos Aires. It is however rather reasonably proced (unlike many others in its vicinity), rooms are comfortable and cozy, and in general I felt it is well-cleaned and mantained. Reasonable selection of cable channels (I missed CNN in Engloish though), and the slow internet seems to be... More

Staying in Retiro

Neighborhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighborhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
