Please don't let the renovated lobby fool your eyes. Although they presumably have some nice rooms in the upper floors, the 2nd floor where my room is located is simply put...Sad! I got a great deal online, but the bottom line is, the house always wins - you get the lowest level room. Old carpets, paint peeling off the walls,... More

The hotel is well-located and room is quiet. Bathroom doesn't fit with the 4-star hotel is supposed to be. But the biggest problem is with the air-conditioner. The hotel has a centralized system and you can't stop or regulate the air in your own room. Just unbearable! You're freezing in your room!!! I wonder how they got their 4th star...... More

Clean and comfortable hotel. Location is convenient for microcenter, bus station, metro, walking distance to Retiro and Recoleta. Excellent value for money. Staff friendly and helpful. Functioning wifi.

First stayed in this hotel in 2003, at which time it was 3-star, and the price was right. In the subsequent years, little was done to refurbish it while the price kept going up, and the staff that seemed mostly made up of retirees kept getting more starchy. Last stayed in 2013, only to note everything remained relatively the same,... More

I only spent one night here but the staff is helpfull and friendly and the hotel has what 4-star hotels need to have as far as servicelevel and amenities go. The location is central, close to Retiro Station (which is not as scary as Tripadvisor suggests, at least in my opinion) and close to the shoppingstreets and Galerias Pacificos in... More

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was great. It is an old building that is gradually being refurbished. Service was great all throughout, from Reception to the wait staff at breakfast. We needed a private car to take us far and back, and they arranged without a problem. The room we got was kind of small... More

I stayed at the Dorá for 2 nights during my stay in Buenos Aires and really enjoyed it. The location is unbeatable, very close to the heart of Buenos Aires as well as to Recoleta. The staff was very attentive and always ready to help. The rooms are modern and comfy and there's free wi-fi throughout the hotel. It's great... More

Yes hotel is old charm but staff and comfortable beds make it a good option. Location is great. Street in front of hotel will soon be pedestrian only. Bathrooms are small. Windows in bedroom open. Staff help with every detail or question you have. Dining room and small bar area is used by hotel guest, intimate and serve good food.... More

If you're looking for a standard luxury hotel where you could be anywhere in the world, don't stay here. Step inside Dora's doors, and you feel like you stepped back 50 years. Everything from the excellent service, to the lifts, to the glass courtyards, to the music, and the decor and artwork combines to make you wonder how she survived... More

The hotel Gran Dora is old-world and charming. The older men staffing the front desk are MOST helpful and speak good English. Our room has a good king sized bed, and is most comfortable. Bathroom an bedroom are spotlessly clean. The wifii is fast and free, continental breakfast more than adequate, service old fashioned and impeccable. The hotel has a... More

Staying in Retiro

Neighborhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighborhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
