Wonderful ancient palace of Buenos Aires. Located in a big avenue with important trafic around. A few walking distance of the Obelisc, the museum of Eva Peròn and the Congresso. We feel immediately the atmosphere of the thirties. All the hotel is old-fashioned but so charming. Terrific ! "Superior room" is a room of the thirties... Old-fashioned, clean, comfortable but... In great central location within easy walking distance to the city centre. Would have been some place in its heyday but the rooms were tired and in need of an upgrade. The entrance foyer retains its grandeur of yesteryear. The room I had, had frosted glass windows that were high up and opened onto buildings. I asked to be moved... More

I was concerned about staying at the hotel based on some previous reviews here but 5 nights cost the same as one night in a European 3 star hotel and I felt it was worth the risk. The hotel had big bedrooms. My request to be moved to a room which didn't have a wall in common with the lift... More

Making a tour in Argentina we stayed 3 nights in hotel Castelar. The location is excellent to visit the centre. The reception and breakfast room are very nice and decorated. Breakfast is excellent. However the rooms are very noisy, very old furniture, very old and dirty carpets. Staff is very helpful at the reception. Impossible to open the windows due... More

We arrived at 11 pm and were buzzed in to the side door, not the revolving door, but they were very welcoming. Our room was quiet but basic, with a good sized bathroom. Everything worked fine. The best part was walking out the door, and finding a nice bistro a block away for dinner and drinks along with the locals.... More

The grandeur and potential of the Castelar were quite appealing but beyond that, it's pretty shabby (dirty carpeting, torn upholstery, etc.) The internet was so bad we had to move twice to get to find a room with a good connection but then we had to suffer a lot of street noise. On the positive side, it's a great location;... More

A good choice in BA at a very reasonable price. Very close to the most important BA Subte lines for tourists and to several nice restaurants. Rooms are somewhat small but interesting and secure. The breakfast is an excellent buffet with an assortment of fresh and wholesome food. The staff is very helpful. The hotel has a bank-like secure walk-in... More

We stayed here for 2 weeks with a group of friends and enjoyed the experience. The location is very central with a Subte stop right outside and bus stops to La Boca, Recoleta and incredibly, even the number 8 to the airport, within 1 or 2 streets of the main entrance. Our room was up on the 10th floor facing... More

We asked for a room change after the first night of NO SLEEP owing to schools students banging on doors, running up and down the corridors, shouting and playing loud music right next to our room. We got a room change all right - to another room which had even rowdier students and though we rang reception 3-4 times through... More

Staying in Recoleta

Neighborhood Profile
Recoleta
Characterized by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighborhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. You'll also find a rich cultural scene centered on the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Library, and the Recoleta Cultural Center; as well as some great shopping spots, like the Buenos Aires Design Mall with an artists' fair set up in Plaza Francia every weekend.
