I was lucky to book a bigger double room. It was a big, street facing room witha wonderful view. My friend complained a bit about the carpet since she is allergic. I like old buildings, so I loved the place. But it is indeed outdated. Not a real 4 stars hotel. It has flaws and qualities, but I would stay... More

This was my second stay at this hotel. Previously I enjoyed my stay at Castela and was happy to return. However the previous shabby chic was replaced by shabby and filthy. In addition, the air conditioning didn't work and it was 35°C. We were upgraded to another room which was better but not good enough. Rather than argue and affect... More

The lobby of Hotel Castelar breathes history and is very impressive, but unfortunately that is only a facade. Our room was way too small for three beds (it was just a two person bedroom with an extra bed crammed in), the paint was crumbling off the walls, the curtains were too small for the windows and everything in the room... The hotel looks beautiful and the food is okay, but there are two important negative aspects. During our stay (3 nights in the hotel) we have experienced two stolen bags from the hotel. One of the bags was stolen form a person of our travel group, stolen from the dining area. She was not allowed to watch the security camera... More

There is a guided tour on Wednesdays to visit one of the rooms that was used by Federico Garcia Lorca while visiting Buenos Aires. It is very interesting but...it was cancelled without any explanation. It is a shame that there is no respect for the tourist visiting the place.

Wonderful ancient palace of Buenos Aires. Located in a big avenue with important trafic around. A few walking distance of the Obelisc, the museum of Eva Peròn and the Congresso. We feel immediately the atmosphere of the thirties. All the hotel is old-fashioned but so charming. Terrific ! "Superior room" is a room of the thirties... Old-fashioned, clean, comfortable but... In great central location within easy walking distance to the city centre. Would have been some place in its heyday but the rooms were tired and in need of an upgrade. The entrance foyer retains its grandeur of yesteryear. The room I had, had frosted glass windows that were high up and opened onto buildings. I asked to be moved... More

Staying in Montserrat

Neighborhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighborhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
