If you are going to be so stupid as to build a hotel overlooking a major highway (N1) that never stops, I guess you will all not think of putting in sound proof or double glazed windows. Given the fact that the main reason for staying overnight in a hotel is to sleep, this is a complete waste of money... More

I facilitated a 2-day workshop at Protea Hotel Tyger Valley. The service was excellent. The food outstanding with pastries, coffee and tea on arrival, 10h00 and 15h00 cakes and savoury snacks and a wonderful buffet lunch. Shuttle to and from the airport was arranged by Protea Hotel and were 100% on time.

My work's travel agents booked me into this hotel, and it was only then that I saw many reviews mentioning the high traffic noise levels. They weren't exaggerating! The room that I was given was so noisy that I couldn't keep the windows open but had to keep the aircon on all of the time to compensate. Traffic is busy... More

No complaints! Clean, comfortable, decent A/C, 500mb of free wifi (awesome compared to most South African hotels), and decently priced. Nice view of Table Mountain and Lion's Head. Decent on-site bar and restaurant.

This hotel was nice enough and rooms were clean. I was given a smoking room which made my eyes burn just opening the door, when I called the front desk to ask to switch to non-smoking, I was told they were all booked and so was every hotel nearby. I argued a bit and was told they would "purify" the... More

While it is understood that Protea runs a training program annually for learners, it does not excuse poor service, learners are learning but should be supervised and with supervision comes responsibility to the guests at the hotel. I stay at Protea Hotels all over South Africa, and this is the worst. Breakfast is supposed to start at 06H30, every morning... More

My son and I stayed at the Tygervalley Protea Hotel. Staff were pleasant and the grounds clean. The room was great in size as was the bathroom and both very clean. My only complaint is that it was smelly. It stated "non-smoking" room - but one could smell stale smoke. Not pleasant at all.

This hotel is situated close to a motorway, so some rooms are noisier than others. However, the rooms are spacious and clean. They have air conditioning fitted. However, the one I had in my room was not the most efficient. Either it was too small and needed servicing. The Hotel restaurant tends to serve buffet food for dinner and breakfast.... More

Costly internet makes no sense, here or anywhere. 500mb free is nice, but then why so expensive? ISPs such as Axxess sell at R19/gb. All hotel chains ought to supply at, say, R40/gb. That aside, food was tasty and fresh, staff cheerful and efficient, background music not too loud (mix representing diverse tastes). Protea generally are excellent.
