We stayed here for 1 night on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! During the day we did a wine tour and enjoyed a amazing supper at Big Easy, highly recommend both! The rooms were clean, & unique. The shower that overlooks the bedroom area is so unique. Gorgeous Balcony looking over the courtyard area. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast... More

The bed was comfy, Nice bathroom Good location The restaurant is atrocious and the staff are unmotivated and sometimes just rude hence why its always empty. Generally a very Dull hotel. Building works nextdoor and the mess associated No water in the room and the price to get some! After experiancing previous hotels this was a real let down. Luckily... More

stayed in Apr 12 so second visit for two rather than three days this time. Family apartment option worked pretty well for us and provided flexibility. Glad we were at the back to avoid some of the extensive noise from building activity at front. Breakfasts were good on both days. Location is one of the key selling points for the... More

I stayed here 20 years ago and admit it has lost a lot of its old world charm but it was also a lot smaller then. Staff are fantastic - always friendly and quick to place. It is well placed to walk somewhere locally for dinner and does not get any overflow of street noise. They are about to start... More

We stayed in the cottage - lovely and very different interior. We had a problem with the shower, unfortunately never got fixed! Good I have a handyman. We give it four stars because of the restaurant and its outdoor facilities, a beautiful and very peacefull place to eat, it was like all guests showed respect and enjoyed the peace -... More

we didn t stay in the hotel but used the restaurant for dinner........and can t recommend it highly enough. the waitress was pleasant, friendly, knowledgable. the food was absolutely excellent. the courtyard setting perfectly setup with tables far enough apart, and a good old fashioned quality white table cloth and decent cutlery and glasses approach to laying the table. wine... Great two bedroom family apartment with a full kitchen, lots of space and a fantastic terrace. The location is absolutely perfect on Church Street right next to wonderful restaurants and great shopping. If ever in Stellenbosch again, we will definitely stay there.

After more than 200 yrs of hospitality the staff at Oude Werf Hotel in Stellenbosch have surely worked out how to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. The beds are large and very comfortable. Our room, although at street level was quiet (most of the time). The common areas are pleasant and furnished with newspapers and interesting books. Staff are... More

This hotel looks better in the pictures than in reality. The location is good but I was given an oak apartment which I didn't want. It overlooked a busy bar and was right at the back behind the main hotel. It is alarmed and gated which worried me. After refusing the room I was moved to the main building which... More

The Oude Werf Hotel is very central to the tourist bureau, amazing shops, wonderful restaurants and just down the block from the hotel is a shop that does excellent wine tasting. The staff bend over backwards to help you and are very friendly.

Established in 1802, Oude Werf is South Africa's oldest and most historic hotel and has defined hospitality and fine dining for centuries. Our guests enjoy the wonders of the Cape Winelands from the repose of our luxurious accommodation, situated in the historical core of the university town of Stellenbosch, only 50km from Cape Town, 25km from the sea and surrounded by beautiful mountains. Stellenbosch is famous as the premier wine region of South Africa.Located on vibrant Church Street, Oude Werf retains the graceful ambience of Georgian style throughout. Soft hues and antique furniture have been tastefully aligned with the comforts of modern living to create a calm haven from which to base your exploration of Stellenbosch. The hotel consists of 44 en suite bedrooms and 5 apartments (self catering, optional) which are individually styled with antiques collected over the years. Modern facilities, and staff who pride themselves on their friendly, personal and professional service, make each visit an enjoyable and memorable one.Our landmark 1802 Restaurant - now a beautifully redesigned 'modern-meets-vintage' bistro, with vine- covered courtyard and indoor fireside - is called "Liefde" ("Love", in Afrikaans). It serves homey, Cape classics, made with love…and a contemporary gourmet twist from chef, Albert van der Loo, matched with vintages from our world-famous wine region. ... more   less
