Never used my rental car as everything was within walking distance! Although very central, my room was very quiet (week-end, student holidays). Best asset of this hotel is the extremely attentive staff who responded to every need with a huge smile and unprompted by tips gave their best! Two gentleman in particular have obviously been with the hotel for many... more

We loved this hotel, very intimate and full of character. Very friendly staff and a great breakfast. The note in our room explaining services was addressed to us personally, very nice touch. It is also in a great area for food and shopping. more

Right in the centra of town and all the bars and restuarants. The hotel is confortable and the rooms are basic but clean. its not what i would call 4 star but its ok and the location is the most appealing point. oh and the breakfast !! more

I decided to write this review because I couldn't believe what I was reading in some of the other reviews! Having stayed here in May 2007 and again in February 2008 we have booked for 10 days in 2009 because it is our favourite hotel in South Africa. The staff are welcoming, it's a great location right in the middle... more

After staying in some fantastic places in South Africa, D'Ouwe Werf was probably the only one I wouldn't return to. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, it just wasn't that great. The building itself is nice, very historic and very well located in town but the place has a bit of an aloof air (which it has no reason... more

We stayed here on the very last night of our trip to South Africa as we dropped off our rental car in Stellenbosch and the next morning took a taxi at 4am (!!) for the short drive to CapeTown airport. The hotel is extremely average with devent sized and clean but tired rooms. On the up side the location is... more

This is the oldest existing inn in South Africa--good news and bad news. While I orginally booked our family in The Wild Mushroom Guest House, it is now managed by D'ouwe Werf ("The Old Yard"). Our rooms at The Wild Mushroom were three stories up and we had a lot of luggage...so my husband asked if there were more convenient... more

I actually stayed at the Wild Mushroom guest house next door which has now been taken over be d'Ouwe Werf - so the rooms are different (self catering studio - but we still got breakfast), I'm not sure if they're keeping them separate I assume it will properly become part of d'Ouwe Werf soon. If you have the choice though... more

Looking at the pics on the internet decided to book for 2 nights in a luxury room. Not happy with the ground floor room on arrival but told it was the only one available, even though others on the ground appeared to be left empty overnight. It was very dark, located between the ladies and gents toilets, and had no... more

De Oude Werf is the oldest Inn is South Africa and a truly charming place. It's located right in the centre of Stellenbosch, so you can enjoy the great wines in the surrounding restaurants without having to worry about driving. The rooms are maybe not as big as the ones of the hotels on the wineries but then again the... more
