Lovely quirky place with a rustic atmosphere our only regret was we only had one night here. Food was excellent and was served in a lovely atmospheric dining room with a big open fire. We loved our room, you could almost feel the history of the place. Definitely recommend this place.

A lovely spot to stay for one night and the rooms were very spacious with huge bathrooms and well appointed amenities. Like others have mentioned there was no evening meal available due to a wedding being prepared for so we had to travel to a nearby restaurant. The breakfast was fabulous and other than the evening meal one could not... More

We arrived after a long journey to be greeted very warmly at our car. We had room 11 which was lovely. The room and bathroom was large, clean and comfortable, and the gardens were just beautiful. We had food in the restaurant the first night, which although not the best we had on our two week tour, certainly wasn't that... More

Like the last reviewer This was booked for us by Trailfinders in the Uk. We actually had a good-sized room with a large refurbished bathroom (suspect it was one of the best) but somehow the lodge felt old and unloved. By far our biggest complaint however was that we arrived after along drive and were told that the restaurant was... More

This was a one night stay as part of a Garden Route tour booked via TA in the UK. This was by far the worst accommodation we experienced in SA. The info from Trailfinders was that we were booked into a luxury room with all modern amenities - I would like to know who decides what that actually means. Our... More

Enjoyable overnight stay. Food was good, though not exceptional. Interesting old furnishings, though some aspects I thought a bit 'tacky' - flowers scattered over beds etc, cheap lampshade over bed with lovely view of energy saving bulb. I dropped something on the floor and looking under the bed the dust hadn't been removed for a long time. grounds are interesting... More

We stayed for 1 night in early March as part of our honeymoon trip. We were welcomed on arrival and shown to our room which was more like a villa, it was huge! We had a huge bathroom too with jacuzzi bath. The furniture both in the room and restaurant is quirky but really suits the place and there are... More

We travelled 5 hours from cape town to arrive at the de opstlal hot and tired. We were welcomed by name on arrival and shown straight to our room, which was like something out of a movie it was so pretty and quaint. The gentleman on the desk, whos name I am sorry to say I have forgotten ,then offered us... What a true delight. The De Opstal Country Lodge proved to be the most delightful and relaxing stay in the Ostrich district of South Africa. The extensive grounds are beautifully maintained and include a wonderful pool area and abound with visual delights. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable and the relaxing atmosphere created by the hosts and the... More

Stayed 6 nights for our 4th stay at this lovely property. Great staff - always very welcoming. Lovely rooms - quirky Karoo style, with all modern amenities. Excellent pool and garden. Breakfasts, particularly the fruit choice, are excellent. Dinners - sometimes buffet, sometimes a la carte - good choice and quality. Highly recommended.
