I have stayed plenty of times here over the last view years, but unfortunately this time around, not so good. Firstly the heating was a problem for the evening and also no extra blankest in the room and I visited smack in the middle of winter. I only realized my situation from my return from dinner. But the overall stay... More

Stayed 1 night as part of a tour group. We were told that our rooms would all be warm, but of course ours wasn't. Eventually got the heating going but during the night we did light the lively wood fire that was already to go in our room. This place us quite unusual to say the least. It has great... More

A quaint and interesting hotel - but rooms terribly cold. Interesting to have touches of ostrich leather throughout the room. Bathroom nicely appointed. Air conditioning in rooms makes very little difference in winter and the open fire adds ambience - but little heat. Be careful if using the fire for heat as a top up of wood costs 150 Rand!!... After a visit to the nearby Cango Caves we arrived here late afternoon for a 1 night stay.We were welcomed by the restaurant manager and the owner and shown to our room which was originally the milking shed. The room was spacious and clean and the bathroom had a separate shower and whirlpool bath. There was also a seating area with a... Most reviews use the term quirky which I would agree with but all of my family found it to be our kind of quirky. We were in Cape Town prior to here and wanted a contrast which it was with its quiet rural setting and rustic charm. The staff were very helpful and welcoming e.g.the agents had sent through the... We stayed here just one night and were disappointed we could not stay longer. The room we got, had a double bed and a single bed, a fireplace and lounge. It had loads of storage space and room to move in. The bathroom was large too and well appointed. We had dinner and breakfast here and both meals were very... More

We based ourselves here with Matilda and here amazing team whilst we spend 4 days traversing this amazing valley. There is so much to do we wish we had stayed for a few more days. All the rooms here are unique and well appointed and you will want for nothing. The staff are dedicated to ensuring your stay is comfortable... More

I don't understand how they can justify R220.00 for a buffet dinner! Total rip-off especially since there is no al carte option and should you want a smaller evening meal you have to travel into Oudsthoorn approximately 15km. As a Tourist Guide I would not use De Opstal - there are places is just as good and also quaint that... More

Beautiful room and great buffet meal with a roaring log fire in the middle of the restaurant. It was a cool night and when we returned to our lodge, the staff had put a hot water bottle in our bed. Lovely touch!

Loved everything about this hotel, epsecially the fantastic service. We arrived mid afternoon and within an hour they had provided us with Sandwiches and took care of our laundry! Such a relaxing place and the food in the resteraunt was brilliant - loved the Ostrich steaks! Definately the place to go to for a relaxing countryside rest!
