This Lodge is quaint, old fashioned and fairly unique and my wife and I enjoyed our 2 night stay here. We were in room 15 which was a very big 'cottage', with a good sized and well equipped bathroom with a walk in shower and a separate jacuzzi bath. The cottage had its own veranda which overlooked the gardens which... More

Very cozy place, very nice garden and very good food from the resturant. The rooms are in small houses and are very cozy, not so high standard but very good. The bathroom are better standard. Nice small pool but was a bit dirty at the time. Nice hotel to stay a shorter time.

We were a bit apprehensive about our pre-booked stay here after reading the comments on Trip Advisor but I have to say we had a lovely night here. We were allocated room 12 which had a lovely balcony, bed and bathroom with jacuzzi bath and large shower. The hotel grounds were spacious and the pool was a refreshing dip after... More

Stayed here for two nights, it wasn't worth the drive. There is a country charm with this place but we felt like we were staying at an Amish resort. Bar the Ostrich bobotie, the food was atrocious (a ham and cheese omelette that looked like a heart attack on a plate!). Staff were friendly, at times a bit over attentive... More

We stayed here for one night in December and were sorry to leave. It's such a beautiful setting and our room was so unique and peaceful that we would liked to have stayed another night. Our room (one of several white cottages in beautiful grounds) was huge, the décor was full of character and the attention to detail was incredible.... More

We stayed one night at De Opstal during our trip along the garden route. The hotel/guesthouse was easily in the worst 3 places I've ever stayed in. From a haphazard check in, to an old crusty, unclean room to a total shambles at dinner, this is one place to avoid. For example, our bed sheets had holes in them and... More

Myself and a travelling companion stayed here for just one night. It looked beautiful during the day with a beautiful garden dotted with small little cottages. We arrived late evening as did two other guests. The restaurant was closed and, as we were out of town somewhat, there were no nearby restaurants. However the lady in reception kindly called a... Our tour guide didn't give us much information about this property and said it was not what we may be used to. He said they had outdoor showers?! Not sure what to expect but when I got into our room, saw two beds, antique furniture, little knick knacks and peaked into the bathroom and no shower! Then I noticed a... More

This hotel has lovely grounds, albeit not huge, which have been filled with eclectic items. The rooms are large and well appointed and the al fresco tea/coffee/cookies fridge set up unusual but appealing. The restaurant was nicely set-up and the food was inventive and well presented. as we found everywhere in South Africa the service was friendly and helpful to... More

We stayed one night at this lovely inn. We were welcomed on arrival and taken to our charmingly rustic cottage room, where we had a massive king sized bed and a single in a big room with seating area, TV and a couple of comfortable arm chairs. The bathroom was equally delightful with a whirlpool tub and separate shower, and... More
