My pleasant experience started when making the reservation. I'm not comfortable with giving credit card details and the lady I spoke with had no problem with still making the reservation. I would also like to add that she was very well spoken, something you do not commonly find in SA, very friendly and I could understand every word she said... More

The architecture of the hotel is very impressive, the reason for making our booking 6 months in advance! We however did not have the romatic honeymoon at the hotel we expected. 3 days prior to our arrival we were notified that there is a wedding at the hotel during the time we were staying there. This meant that we could... More

Having picked this hotel, just because it was small and different, rather than a large corporate number we weren't disappointed until........ The room we were given certainly wasn't a suite, as the booking form said, but a small standard hotel room, with a small window. However it was clean and modern. It turns out they call all their rooms "suites".... More

Dear michele a I am very surprised to read that your booking form stated that you were in a suite. We have one Honeymoon suite, and the other rooms are Luxury rooms or standard rooms. The historical nature of the building dictates the space that rooms were allowed. We have just successfully passed our annual 5 star evaluation which takes... More

First, i want to confirm what many previous reviewrs have mentioned. It's quirky, it has an interesting touch and it has quite a unique atmosphere. We styed in the oyster suite, which is very nice and large. The room was clean, modern, stylish with old turbine elements and a great view over the bay. Its a fantastic place to stay... More

Dear SwissGlobalTraveller We are really happy that you enjoyed your stay in our little hotel. It is a great location to explore the surrounding areas and as you say, especially if you are a golfer. You stayed in our Honeymoon suite(oyster suite) which has magnificent views over the town and waterways. We are aware of the Wi-Fi issue, which is... More

Knysna is a lovely spot to visit and this hotel was really quirky and nice too. The rooms were fantastic and the setting is perfect. Pool area is lovely and ideal for a cocktail or a lounge around. The service, we thought, left a lot to be desired. It really wasn't very professional and quite amateur in fact. we had... More

Dear Gaffers76 Thank you for taking time to review your stay with us. The hotel certainly does have a quirky nature, which displays two completely different eras, and blends luxury stay with industrial setting. I am disappointed to hear you had problems with the service as this is certainly not our standard. This will be addressed. We really pride ourselves... More

Such a brave move for someone to have the great insight & imagination to turn an old turbine station into a hotel & retain so much of the history. As soon as you enter the front door, you are impressed by what has been achieved retaining the old machinery & creating such a modern environment around it. Our room was... More

Dear Giffnocklain Thank you so much for your kind review on the hotel. Management and staff find it fun to work here, given our unique character, combining luxury and what was heavy industrial. You are write in saying that the owners were brave, but got it so right. What pleases me most is that the service, rooms and food matched... More

This is one of my favourite boutique hotels. I would imagine it was a dream to remodel this old turbine into a hotel. The decorating was really nice, the staff were incredible. I loved the little touches, water and fruit in the room, fabulous breakfast, really nice bed and sheets. The bathroom was huge with a big shower and tub... More

Dear Belinda S Thank you so much for such a kind review. We do think we have a very special and unique experience to offer. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and still incorporates some of the industrial elements of the old power station. I will certainly pass on your kind compliments to all the staff. Please feel free to... More

We absolutely loved our stay at Turbine hotel. It's a beautiful hotel in a great, beautiful, peaceful setting. The hotel is a heritage site - built in an old power station. They kept lots of the pipes and large machinery and gave it a modern twist with funky colors - truely unique! Rooms are very spacious (compared to other South-African... More

Dear Lelanie V Thank you so much for such a wonderful review. You would have encountered Schalk alongside the lagoon, who introduced you to all the special little creatures we share the space with. We are very proud to be part of a blue flag status lagoon, that has endangered species like the Knysna Sea-Horse flourishing, along the shores. Whenever... More

The Turbine Hotel and Spa is a gem. Tucked away in Thessen Island it has great views, great service, great food. The staff went out if their way to help assist with my husbands birthday surprise. The breakfast were amazing. My only note is that the rooms are on the small / tight side (stayed in a Junior suite) -... More
