My boyfriend and I stayed at Derwent House based purely on the reviews on Tripadvisor, we were not disappointed. They certainly warrant the award that they have proudly displayed from Tripadvisor. The owners were away when we stayed there, but Vuyo made us feel totally welcome from the moment we arrived. She gave us a full guided tour, so we... more

Beautiful, friendly boutique hotel with the friendliest and most helpful staff you can imagine. Bandy in particular was really helpful. The honour bar and complimentary tea/coffee and cakes were a pleasure to have. Lovely breakfasts. Gorgeous room. Shame about the weather! I look forward to coming back in the summer some time. more

Carol and Jo have completely renovated a stately home, turning it into a stylish, comfortable boutique hotel for those who want the quality of a luxury hotel, but with the scale and ambiance of a cozy property, for about a third the price. The staff do everything in their power to make your visit perfect. The chef prepares breakfast (included)... more

Instead of a hotel this has the feel of staying with dear friends, if you are not already you surely will be by the end of the stay. Lovely touches, decor, warmth of hospitality, interest in your daily plans, recommendations for restaurants and follow ups, bookings made, pick ups from airport sorted, staff who live locally and who love their... more

Stayed 17-19th June and it 'does exactly what it says on the tin' - could not be faulted in any way shape or form and puts 5 star hotels to shame in regard to service, comfort, style and general ambiance. Best breakfasts in Africa! Would recommend to anyone. Room 4 looks directly onto Table Mountain and is US sized with... more

My husband and I traveled all over South Africa for our honeymoon and this hotel was, by far, our favorite stay (better than the Fairmont and other 5 star hotels!). Besides the delicious breakfast and afternoon treats, the hospitality was far more than expected. My husband was sick one our days in Cape Town and the hotel ordered take-in food... more

Our family of 5 just returned from South Africa during which time we spent 7 nights at Derwent House. We had rooms 8 and 9. Room 8 (for 2) is very small, but room 9 (for up to 3) is more like an apartment. This hotel is about a $4-5 USD cab ride to the waterfront, but it is also... more

Without wishing to repeat all of the previous excellent reviews, Derwent House fully deserves it's number 1 ranking. Carol and Jo are both extremely helpful, and their staff are all superb. Do make the most of their recommendations, we tried some excellent restaurants we would never have known about (or been able to find!) otherwise. Definitely the best hotel I... more

Beautifully decorated hotel. Very good breakfast made to order. Homey living room. Good service. We had a few issues traveling with kids and having multiple rooms. My mom, aged 77, could not stay in the room originally provided (#2) since it had a bath and one would have to shower squatting in the tub. Second, as we had to stay... more

We stayed at Derwent in April and were really impressed. We have done lots of traveling but this hotel would have to be our favourite. The breakfast was amazing as were the extra touches like lovely cakes, port & sherry. It was like a home away from home. The staff were very friendly and professional. We could not have been... more
