Only go to Carnival Court when you really want to party every night! You're staying in the middle of all the bars, which makes it the perfect location! The rooms are very basic and a bit old, but it is OK. It's actually quite cheap for Capetown and the staff is friendly. Don't forget to bring your own padlock with... More

Noisey, right in the heart of party central Capetown, Long street... Decent value... but you wont get any sleep... Decent kitchen, passable bathrooms... But nisey until 5 in the morning... Great location, but stray further up or down long street or away totally if you want to sleep

Very very central location, perfect location! It's a nice place, good atmosphere nice place to meet people etc. Cool balcony for driving. A bar, but not that cheap for a hostel. Staff are very good and helpful Rooms are basics, but do the job!

I'm not much of a hostel-person, but I have to admit my experience at the Carnival Court wasn't that bad at all. The place is kinda of old, it might need some maintanance, but it's quite clean, expecially the bathroom and the showers. I noticed as soon as someone would use one of the bathrooms, some of the cleaners were... More

Carnival Court was the first backpackers place in South Africa that we stayed in. We arrived in the morning and were pleasantly surprised by the colonial feel of the interiors. Little did we know that this almost classical wooden-floored building with high-ceilings and winding staircases will be transformed into a party hub after dark. This is an ideal place to... More

I stayed here for a week during NYE. The staff was great! They were really helpful in helping us book tours and accommodating us. The place is really secure. There were door men for late nights who were really friendly and helpful. The hostel bar was pretty laid back and fun. The hostel is located on a party street near... More

I'm surprised by all the reviews saying that this place is not clean, actually I have seen housekeeper cleaning the corridors and bathrooms all the day long. I found the place nice, quite charming in its old style, location is great and staff very friendly and helpful. You are just 20 minutes walking to Waterfront and 5 minutes walks to... More

Probably an okay place to stay when you're partying all week all night, but otherwise not, if you want a little bit of rest. You have to put in very good earplugs or be tired enough to fall asleep. Besides that the music was absolutely terrible and often I could feel the base banging through the floor when I was... More

My boyfriend and I tried to find a reasonably priced double room in a hostel for 4 nights in Cape Town, but unfortunately didn't have much luck. In the end, we decided to 'rough it' on Long Street for 2 nights, and then splurge a little on a nicer room at Bohemian Lofts in Observatory (see separate review) for 2... More
