I had a last minute business trip and the B&B that I normally stay at was fully booked. Reviews came up positive so I booked. Owner was happy to serve me a breakfast at 6:30am. There is only one parking available and the parking in the street is busy at night. If you don't have a car then it will... More

Oh dear, with a 100% rating on Tripadvisor it seems I am one of very few who did not quite find this to my expectation. The reviews in the guest book are great & most people seem to be happy so what went wrong for me? I like to try very different types of accommodation from very high end hotels... More

We stayed in Gilmourhill on 29 and 30 December 2013. What a pleasant experience! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful Cape-style house. The location of Gilmourhill is wonderful. It's close to a few very good restaurants and albeit in Cape Town, still just outside of the hustle and bustle. The area is safe as well - we had... More

We got a tip from some of our friends about this BnB and that it was a lovely place to stay with a really nice owner that took good care of the guests. It was so much better! Maureen, the owner, is a fantastic woman and treated us like family. When we came there (our first stay) we had no... More

Having just arrived in Cape Town after a 2 week journey from Perth on the Queen Mary 2, my 78 yr old mother and I were a little apprehensive. What would our accommodation be like? Would it be central? After the Queen Maary 2 would we still have that being looked after experience? Well..... Our concerns were instantly dashed the... More

After an eleven hour flight we had a somewhat difficult start to our holiday when we were left without accommodation. As fate would have it, we were led to the welcoming arms of the one & only Maureen at Gilmourhill. On arrival we were given the pick of the available rooms & we chose a fabulous room at the rear... We initially planned to stay somewhere else, but the fact that they were fully booked drove us into the hands of Maureen. We were lucky that it went this way. Maureen offered us a comfy home for four nights. Gilmour Hill is in a quiet and safe neighbourhood and in walking distance of many restaurants and sights in the city.... More

The house is beautiful, Maureen used to be in interiors and it shows! The house is eclectic, welcoming and very charming. My room was large, clean and very comfortable. Crisp white sheets and big plump pillow are just the thing after a day trecking around the wineries. The food is out of this world and very plentiful - I challenge... More

We accidentally "stumbled" upon Maureen's Gilmourhill Bed & Breakfast because there appeared nothing else available for our 3 day's stay in Cape Town. And to be honest, we accepted this B&B only with great apprehension, since I couldn't find any review on the Net - consider that our whole South Africa round trip was solely based on tripadvisor reviews! Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Gilmour Hill is a superb retreat at the edge of the city. Relax and Rejuvenate in style in this perfectly located guesthouse. Nestled between Cape Town’s city bowl and Lion’s head is the quiet suburb of Tamboerskloof. The house stands on the slopes of Table Mountain, where it has stood since the late 19th century. Gilmour hill is a beautifully appointed Victorian home which has 4 en suite bedrooms, a central dining area, living area, an outside patio with a potted garden, which like the house brims with character and life. There is satellite TV in some of the rooms and wifi in the whole house.Maureen the owner is as eclectic as the house itself. She has travelled extensively and loves nothing more than engaging in the stories she shares with travellers from all over the world. She brings with her an atmosphere of warmth and congeniality to this B&B that is also her home. Her love of cooking promises breakfasts of home baking, homemade jams and very different delights such as pancakes with crispy bacon, crème fraiche and maple syrup decorated with summer fruits and always a pot of freshly brewed coffee.Gilmour Hill is situated in the very heart of the ‘10-minute suburb’ of Tamboerskloof, everything around the city is a mere 10 minute taxi ride; the city centre, the Convention Centre, Camps Bay & Clifton beaches, the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain and Lion’s head. The bustling Kloof Street with its countless restaurants and shops is within walking distance of the house. Close to public transport too. ... more   less
