The Backpack is a perfect hostel if you want to explore Cape Town. It's location is central and near to everything, including Long Street and other attractions. The staff at the reception were very welcoming and helpful - they can book everything and anything you want to do in Cape Town without you even needing to lift a finger! I... More

The backpack was clean and comfortable with helpful staff. The wifi was pretty fast, despite being localized to the reception and bar area. Food and drinks we affordable and good. The building was secure and the bathrooms were quite nice. Definitely better than other hostels in Cape Town.

It was easy for me to rate this the best hostel that I had stayed at becuase it was my first. However, I shared a private room with my daughter who has stayed in hostels in Japan, Spain, Portugal, France, and England and she was equally impressed. Our room, the Nadine Gordimer room, was very quirky, but comfortable ... with... More

Pros: Showers are excellent, hot water and water pressure. Individual rooms are comfortable, clean, and sheets get renewed daily. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. You can book all you need to do from the staff/reception desk. Bar is nice but small, good for chilling but not for partying. Cons: Wifi only works in bar or common area. It is... More

One of the nicest backpackers I've stayed at. Loved the fireplace in the cafe/bar - this place was a fantastic space. The only issue I had was that my room (very nice and newly done up) smelt strongly of fresh paint, which wasn't great for sleeping in as the fumes were strong enough to give me a headache.

I absolutely loved my time here! Great atmosphere, nice bar/cafe, clean rooms and facilities and excellent location. Also, the building is very safe. I never felt threatened or in danger at any time. The staff is awesome and will help you book tours and excursions, recommend restaurants/bars to visit and are also very warm and welcoming.

If only every place could be like The Backpack! Great atmosphere, beautiful location, chill bar/coffee area, what more could you need? I splurged on the 4 person "girls" room and it was well worth it. The last night I was the only guest in this room and it felt like a luxury suite. Can't wait to return!

I imagined the backpackers to simply be of a convenient location where I can get a good nights sleep and warm shower. It turned out to be that, and much more. The atmosphere and vibe is amazing, and I made many new friends during my week long stay there. From bar hopping, to trying out the various local restaurants, to... More

5 friends & I stayed at The Backpack for 5 nights in June 2014 and we had a very pleasant stay. The Backpack has everything you expect from a hostel; not more, certainly not less. Very decent dorms, very hygienic bathrooms, great food, a nice atmosphere and, on top, an amazing view on Tafelberg from the central patio. It's also... More

Great service, beautiful rooms in excellent location, absolutely worth it. I stayed there for three nights in a four bed dorm with private bathroom. I think it was worth the upgrade. Great atmosphere in the bar and the staff were really helpful
