Nice enough place, but considering it's 40-50% more expensive, there is no justification for this. I've stayed in many back-packers, both in SA and abroad and this rates as "average" - not "the best hostel in SA" - no way. Nice mattress, but the noise of the road makes it undesirable, it's location is not so great and the bar... More

We used the Backpack as a central hub to see the rest of Cape Town. We stayed for 7 nights. There are options for ensuite bathrooms or there are plenty of bathrooms and showers for use on the property. The kitchen is nice and big, and there is a freezer and refrigerator for use if you'd like. The bedding was... More

I adored everything about this place. Deserves more than 5*. So many awards for a reason! I initially had two nights but managed to extend it to two weeks although I had to switch rooms a bit as it got booked up fast. Many others I became friends with extended too. I stayed in penguin (single), lion (8 bed mixed)... More

I really enjoyed my stay at the Backpack, had originally booked 4 nights and in the end decided to extend my stay. It is very well located, close enough to the city and also offers the quietness of a residential area. Everyone at the hostel were very helpful whenever I had a question and was a great way to meet... More

We stayed for 4 days and found the staff very friendly and helpful, The facilities are excellent and very central. The rooms were very comfortable. The secure car parking was very use full. We only had breakfast and can recommend their breakfast in a glass.

The hostel is beautiful and has a very relaxed atmosphere. My first night was the worst ever because the dorm was located in a noisy area. Then I moved to another (more expensive) dorm and slept great. Unfortunately the common areas are spread all over the place, so most of the dorms are next to a noisy area. I ended... More

Thank you for taking the time to review our hostel. We are delighted to hear that you love the way we decorate our rooms. We too, think that they are pretty funky! Staying in a dorm, can be a bit of a gamble during the busy seasoning, as the dorms are normally really busy, but we do hope you enjoyed... More

We were a large group with a variety of ages (14-70 years old). The Backpack was able to accommodate all our needs. The place is very clean and most of the staff is very nice and more than willing to accommodate all requests. We had breakfasts arranged for the group everyday...there was more than enough for everyone. This was my... More

We compared every other place we stayed in South Africa to this property! Loved it! Great comfortable and spacious rooms, lovely security guard on arrival and the staff at reception, not only assisted with our what to see and do questions but suggested a dinner venue that was the highlight our of travels. This property had everything we needed and... More
