Normally stay at The V&A at the waterfront but they were fully booked. My other alternative The Commodore was also full but they recommended The Portswood. The check inn was to say the least chaotic, crowded, slow and messy. To be fair one of the reasons could be that Queen Mary Two had just arrived in Cape Town but to... More

We stayed at the Portswood to finish off our South African holiday and it was great. The location was perfect, it was less than a five minute walk down to Victoria Square which is full of shopping, restaurants, the aquarium and other touristy things. The area was safe and secure and definitely let us unwind for our last few days.

Stayed two nights in April. Collected by hotel taxi service, name on board great service. Probably cheaper by ordinary taxi but this was a good service and took us straight to the hotel. Hotel room was clean comfortable and quiet. Price is excellent for location. Tea coffee and water and biscuits in room. Breakfast included and was excellent. Fresh food,... More

A very good hotel, not flashy, but close to the Waterfront. It is run in conjunction with the next door'Commodore hotel and residents can use the facilities of both hotels. So the Coomodore has the larger pool and a gym, the Portwood specialises in Cape Malay food. If you want to try the Chef's special it is better to share... More

Stayed over the Easter holidays. Room was okay-large enough but dated. Price and cleanliness made up for being dated. Service was really great. I was waiting for no wind or clouds to go to Table Mountain. My last morning was just right so I asked the front desk to call a cab. They verified the mountain was open and put... More

We stayed at the Portswood for 3 nights mid March, and it was a fantastic place to be for our first visit to Cape Town - an easy stroll to the Waterfront, and a comfortable room with everything we needed. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, particularly in the bar and restaurant. The Cape Malay feast was amazing,... More

Our first stay was 10 years ago, yet the Portswood has retained its charm, elegance and excellent service. Normally I can pick one unique feature which sets a hotel apart, but this one has many - its location, its customer-focused staff where nothing is too much trouble, its standard of hygiene, the value for money - the list goes on.... This is the second time we have stayed at The PortsWood Hotel and, again, we were not disappointed. The whole facility is well maintained, the bedrooms are spacious and have all the facilities you need. We didn't eat there in the evening - only because of its close proximity to the V&A Waterfront eateries - but we did have their... More

This place was great. You walk in and feel like you've arrived in luxury! The lobby is grand and the staff very welcoming. Thr rooms are very crisp and clean, with everything you need including a flat screen tv and a very large shower and bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the sheet felt so soft. The breakfast in... More

I stayed recently in an executive room on the 4th floor. The rooms are very well appointed and spotlessly clean. Housekeeping knocked on our door each day to check we were happy with the service. The hotel itself is in a great position just a brief walk to all the amenities of the V and A waterfront which is full... More
