We have spent one week in this hotel. Beds are confortable (including 4 pillows); everything is very clear; rooms are made two times a day (with a chocolate gift the nigth); the breakfast is very complete and waiters always ready to help you, as the personal in the reception desk; the swiming pool is not very big; having lunch or... Recently in Cape Town for work and a weekend vacation we booked four rooms at the Portswood. This property is quite handy to the waterfront and all of its restaurants, night life and shopping and has great services in house including a wonderful restaurant. I was particularly impressed by the dedicated staff and their steadfast attention to customer service. As... More

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of March. I was very surprised at the negative reviews of other travellers. Admittedly, the hotel may show a bit of wear and tear but has a lovely ambiance. The traditional decor in navy style sits so well with the historical waterfront location. Beds in our twin room were very... More

Stayed for four nights while doing the Cape Tour and then onto the Queen Mary to OZ. After reading all the negative write ups we were pleasantly surprised to find out for ourselves, this is an unpretentious hotel situated in a good spot a ten minute walk away from the V and A waterfront with all the action bars restaurants... The property was probably built to 4 star standards but it isn't being maintained and the air conditioning seemed to give rise to lots of complaints in the group of half dozen rooms in my party that stayed on two off, three-day-long visits in late Feb and early March 2014. The central problem is one of management. There are LOTS... More

This is about a block away from the V&A Waterfront, and about a block away from the redline and blueline tours. The service was great. We had been hunting in South Africa, and Security took care of safeguarding our guns while we did several days of sight-seeing around Cape Town (and the wine country). This is smaller than its sister... More

A very nice place to stay for my time in Cape Town. Quite comfortable room, very convenient to the restaraunts/shopping/attractions of the V&A waterfront. Great staff, Venlee, Asanda, George and others took care of the few things I needed assistance with, all very friendly. A little bit worn in places, but overall a very nice stay.

I've stayed at the Portswood twice and the location is fantastic, especially for the price. You're steps from an amazing food market and entire V&A waterfront. The rooms are older but fine, and who wants to stay put in their hotel when they're in Cape Town anyway?!The free wireless internet is reliable and more than enough bandwidth for what I... More

Great location to the waterfront. Just a few steps from the V&A. parking is convenient as well. A little dated, but would highly recommend it. Wifi is an extra charge and parking is extra as well in the garage. One plug in the room, so I recommend you bring an multi-plug adapter to charge your phones et al. Nice buffet... More

My Lady and I enjoyed three days of adventure in Cape Town, July 2013, with the PortsWood acting as our home base. The staff was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. Complementary breakfast was yummy! We liked that fact that we were walking distance to just about everything. A pleasant experience!
