Good location on the Waterfront, clean, helpful staff, but building as an old prison and a bit austere. Alos combined with the university, so can easity get lost in the place. First stay was in very small room; second time a week later we had a more spacious room in C block. So try to pre book your room there.

The Protea Breakwater Lodge is housed in an old former prison, which now forms part of the University of Cape Town. The rooms are spread all over the university buildings. The first room we were given was ok by the looks of it. But we soon realised there was no air condition, and only a small noisy plastic fan on... More

I stayed at the Breakwater Lodge for 8 days in oct/09. The hotel is located near a lot of crafts stores, malls and is surrounded by a very touristic environment, prety safe to walk around, right across the street of the Two Oceans Aquarium wich is a really nice place to see. Breakfast was great, College campus style, but with... More

The lodge is ideal if you are looking for a good location and not to pricey a place to stay for a short while. Rooms are small but clean. Breakfast buffet / shop are canteen like though the food was alright. 2 minutes walk from the aquarium and waterfront area. Airport shuttle available on request and for a fee.

It is in the ideal location . It is just a few minutes walk to the Water Front, with all its shops and restaurants. The service is great. The service is just as good. I really felt at home.

A good value base. V.close to all the Waterfront attractions. The hotel is a converted jail - try to stay in B block - the corridors still look like a jail - its cool! The rooms are uni halls-of-residence style suites, with bedroom, sitting room, shower & toilet. Plenty of space to store bags & clothes. Also has tea/coffee making... More
