We stayed at the hotel for 7 days B&B in June 2008. Although it's the closest hotel to the V&A without being in it it is not worth staying here. Even if you are happy to stay in what is basically a university with dorm room the price does not equal the standard you receive. We could have stayed in... more

Stayed in the Breakwater Lodge with a friend when were were on a trip to Cape Town in March 2009. The Hotel was cheap and it's in a great location very safe, 4 mins walk to the waterfront where there are loads of restaurant and markets for shopping and the red tour bus goes right across the road. The hotel... more

I stayed at the Protea Victoria Junction for 2-nights in April 09 but due to them not having availability for further 2-nights, I moved to the dreadful Breakwater Lodge. If you like beige and brown, this place is for you. It’s dull, drab, dreary and just not value for money. I was in what they refer to as a business... more

Great location for the V&A Waterfront, but this hotel is nothing like the description on the Protea Hotel website! This was the worst hotel we stayed in during our trip home to S.A. We had a deluxe room and this was still very basic, for example no air conditioning and we were there in the middle of Summer! The hotel... more

We went to South Africa for our honeymoon. Our travel agent was wonderful but somehow recommended the Breakwater Lodge. It was the worst hotel that we stayed at during our time in South Africa. My public school dorm room looked better than this place. The bathroom was really small and had horrible flourscent lighting. The breakfast was fine but not... more

Aside from location, must be the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. My main issue, as with most other Protea Hotels, is that rooms are not Non-smoking! We arrived, asked for a non-smoking room only to be told there were none! Also, decor and furniture is horrific, felt like a uni hostel! more

The hotel is in an excellent location right next to the Waterfront and costs a fraction of the price of other hotels in the area. Its the site of the old prison and the complex doubles as a business centre for the university. Rooms were functional and plain but very clean, rather like the Ibis hotel chain if I had... more

This hotel was recommended to me by STA Travel, which was the only travel agents I had access to at the time (I was travelling around SA). I realised why this is when I arrived. This is essentially a student residence and was full of north american students when I was there, to the point that I felt quite aware... more

Ex prison, so bit of history here - stayed here for 2 nights and could not believe how close to the waterfront it is for the money :o) Views over table mountain while eating breakfast. An all you can eat breakfast buffet and basic but comfortable rooms. Really good value - couldn't find another hotel anywhere near the price around... more
