The Protea chain has recently become part of Marriott but this hotel isn't really up to the standards we are used to with Marriott. It is clean, the room decor is interesting in a sort of geometric style. It's position is good- very close to the waterfront but I am told that it's an ex prison and there is still something... More

This hotel is located in the heart of V&A Waterfront without the noise. You don't need a car to go shopping, you are at 300 m far from the Victoria Warf Mall. The hotel is very clean and so is the room, but in my opinion the breakfast is too expensive and it should be included. The best cost benefit... More

This was probably our 3rd or 4th visit to the hotel. Unfortunately this time we booked at the last minute and as it was peak season (03/01) we paid a rather high amount for the rooms. When paying the amount we did, it would have been nice if the room was including breakfast. Hotel is as always convenient, clean and... More

Stayed here during a training programme at the University of Cape Town. This is a functional hotel, no frills, no pool. Shares the building with the University. Lovely breakfast. The rooms are very well appointed. Free Wifi. Located close to the waterfront so lots of shopping and fine dining.

We checked in the hotel on our first day in South Africa. The staffs were more than helpful. The location is near the waterfront which is one of the most happening place in Cape town.Even the hop on hop off bus tour of Cape town starts from near the hotel.Other activities like sunset cruise and helicopter rides of the city are within... This is an interesting hotel set in an old prison near the V & A waterfront. Good location and the restaurant and room were OK although my wife did not think a lot of the quality of the housekeeping. The problem with this hotel concerned the reception staff and the matter of ordering taxi's. The hotel has a policy of... More

Located just outside the V&A Waterfront this hotel is ideally located for evening entertainment. The only thing lacking here is a swimming pool, but if you visit just to do some extensive sight seeing then I guess you won't miss the pool. We were in Cape Town for England Cricket and found that when we were on a down day... More

This is a former prison converted into a hotel and school. The room we got was small, barely enough room to walk around the bed, (some people got a larger room). The sink was tiny, about 10 inches in diameter. The shower had no door, just a half glass partition so water would spray out and wet the floor. For... More

Another reviewer wrote that this hotel is "quirky". I think this is the perfect adjective. It is an old jail turned hotel/grad school. We are platinum marriott and were able to be "upgraded" to a "family room" which is actually just two tiny double bed rooms that share a bathroom. The hotel is clean, safe, non smoking and overall I... More
