The owner was great and super helpful, as were all of his staff. Beautiful place, not too huge so it maintains a cozy intimate feel. Great kitchen (which not a lot of hostels have and is nice for cutting down travel costs by not eating out), living room and patio area. It feels a bit like you're a guest in... More

The Amber Tree is located in a great area of Cape Town. The views from the porch are great, no matter what time of day. The rooms are well decorated and comfortable. The Kitchen facilities are also great. Showers are warm and the rooms are quiet. Stephen and Wayne are great hosts

The Amber Tree was the first stop for us on our 7 month trip of travelling and the bar has been set very high. The staff are very helpful and welcoming and the set up there is very practical. It is a great place to meet and socialise with new people and the location is good for all the popular... More

Amazing place to stay on a low budget. Staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble, in fact they went over and above what we expected. Hidden gem in a good location. We stayed in a private room which over looked a zen garden. Our room wasn't noisy as it was away from communal areas. Most guests appeared respectful... More

Amber Tree Lodge is the perfect "feel-good-place". The dorms are small but comfortable. There is a big living room where you can spend the evenings after a city tour. And you have a big kitchen for cooking - feels just like home. The people there are very helpful and friendly. They organize everything for your perfect stay in Cape Town:... More

Amber Tree Lodge is a great place to stay. I was there for 3 nights in a double room w ensuite. Everyone was helpful and met some cool people from around the world. It isn't a huge place so there is a nice quiet vibe, although we walked down to a few bars one night. Definitely recommend a stay here.

Three nights here with my son were enough for me to say one of the better value stays i have had anywhere in Africa or anywhere else for that matter. Clean, friendly, well managed, great living area and kitchen, fantastic location with great coffee, top restaurant, groceries, ATM within 1 minute walk. Ill be back for sure. The real question... We stayed here for a week in May and don't think we could have picked a better hostel. The hostel is in a good location with good bars and restaurants just a few minutes walk away but also not too far from the big attractions like Table Mountain and the brilliant Waterfront. The rooms were clean and comfortable although the... More

Had 5 nights at Amber Tree but would love to of stayed for more, we had such a nice time... Wayne and the other staff are helpful and kind, and the lodge had a quiet laid back vibe to it.... Beautiful location at the foot of table mountain what more could you ask for!

I lodged 19 nights at ATL. It has excellent facilities, is well-kept and clean with friendly, helpful staff, and I would place it in the top 10 of all hostels I have lodged in on four continents. Some minor concerns: showers would occasionally run out of hot water in the first minute; the WiFi could be clunky slow some times... More
