We had a amazing time at Pilanesberg! Shepherd's Tree Lodge provided everything we desired, and then some. The staff was fantastic. They were friendly, warm, and made us feel at home. Our guide was Mauritz, and not only did he track and find each of the big five, but his knowledge of the animals was outstanding. Every time he found... More

Really impressed by the Shepherd's Tree this week from start to finish. Every member of staff was cheerful, charming and made it a memorable experience - Sandra has done a great job putting such a smart team together. The game drives were really outstanding. To be honest I don't think you can go wrong with any of the guides but... More

Very staff member was friendly and helpful The room was immaculately clean with great views of the veld. Terrific outdoor shower. Beautiful accommodation. Food was amazingly good. Still reeling after 2 nights at this wonderful place!! From the minute we arrived we were treated like lords and ladies !! Nothing was too much trouble !! Our guide Mauritz couldn't have been more knowledgable and his passion for animals shone through - we were lucky enough to enjoy a family game drive in the early hours which was... More

My husband and I stayed here for two nights for his birthday. Overall the weekend was lovely! We didn't have any cellphone signal so I can understand why people would also struggle with wifi. However, we were there for a romantic break so we embraced the 3 days with no access to the outside world! The check-in and check-out processes... More

My hubby and I spent a night at Sheperd's Tree Lodge on Friday 18 July. I was completely blown away. We had stayed at Sheperd's Tree before for a long weekend in 2013 and liked the lodge however were not 100% happy with the food (which I believed was in eatable) and believed it could do with a little more... Amos was a great safari guide and this place is great because their guides talk on radios and tell each other where sightings are happening. Food is good and staff is friendly. Wifi isn't great and you have to pay for it which is a bit ridiculous considering the price of the place. Overall highly recommend! Beds are comfortable and... More

What a stunning property! The rooms were lovely. Especially the bathtub and the porch, and the staff was very kind. The included game drives were excellent and Amos was awesome! I do wish the wifi could have been a tinge easier and included-- seems like a silly thing to charge for with everything included. I also don't recommend the further-out... More

This was our first visit to a Game Lodge. From the moment we arrived all the staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The whole complex is spotless and we had an amazing view from our room (and shower!) - the outdoor shower is a great concept - and even though we were there during a very cold spell it... More

All the staff at Shepherd's Tree worked hard to ensure our stay was wonderful. The waiting and reception staff were all excellent. Our game ranger (Greg) was superb. We saw 4 of the Big 5 (including Lions on a kill), and a Cheetah on a kill. Greg suggested to us that we had been 'lucky' - to some extent this... More

Skirting the northern slopes of an amphitheatre within the Pilanesberg Game Reserve lies Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge, the lodge enjoys unrestricted vistas of the wilderness area of this big 5 wildlife sanctuary. Sweeping patios and sun decks adjoin the generous guest entertainment areas and rim-flow swimming pool. A gourmet restaurant, open entertainment decks, cigar lounge and gift gallery are amongst some of the facilities that discerning guests will find during their African safari. The lodge also includes a conference facility and Amani Spa. Attention to detail extends beyond the pleasure of your hosts, and is perhaps only rivaled by the contemporary cuisine, freshly prepared by dedicated chefs. Shepherd’s Tree features 13 double and 4 executive suites accommodating a maximum of 60 guests. Absolute privacy is ensures through the linear positioning of the suites along an elevated contour line, and providing panoramic vistas of the reserve. Each chalet features full en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar and safe. Qualified and experienced guides are tasked with the pleasure of interpreting the sights and sounds of this vast wildlife sanctuary. The reserve is home to the big 5 and cheetah, wild dogs and hippo. Guests are encouraged to join their guide and host on 2 daily safaris, designed around optimal game activity periods, these occur in the early morning and in the late afternoon and evening, the afternoon safari is punctuated by a sundowner stop before continuing into the night with the use of a powerful spotlight. ... more   less
