It was like turning back the clock and revelling in the history of the movers and shakers of the diamond rush in Kimberley. It was an outstanding history lesson seeing Cecil John Rhodes's statue at the entrance, seeing photos of General Harris and of Ernest Oppenheimer and wondering whether any ghosts remain. The wood panelling, the grand staircase, the attention to... More

A most enjoyable stay and a throwback to the days of the diamond rush. One could feel and see the history in the hotel. Just a pity that the The Library wasn't really a library. I would have loved to browse some old novels that Rhodes undoubtedly enjoyed with a whisky and a cigar. The fish was remarkably good and... More

Sadly I cannot agree with the previous reviews. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the history which is incredible . We parked our car in the secure parking across the road . Reception desk was not particularly friendly or informative. We went down for supper that evening the food was dreadful , I actually sent my... More

We stayed at this classic boutique hotel in downtown Kimberley. The restaurant, shocking bad food and service by the poorly trained staff made the stay a never to be repeated visit. No sign of a capable and customer orientated manager to whom we could voice our complaints. Nobody seemed to care about the guests making sure we were happy. Sad... More

When traveling from Capetown to Johannesburg, Kimberley has broken the long hot journey. This is probably the 10th time we have stayed at the Kimberley Club a lovely old establishment steeped in history. We chose a room with only a shower,a bath would have been nice but not first preference as we wanted a room with balcony and one must... More

The conversion of a 'club' into a 'boutique hotel' has been expertly implemented resulting in a memorable experience to stay in and dine surrounded by well preserved architecture and period decor - with unobtrusive access to modern communication technology

An amazing building with an amazing history. The food was good and the rooms decent, although a bath would have been nice rather than a shower. The balconies from the bedrooms are fantastic. The bar shuts very early and we missed it as we didn't finish supper until 2130, which was a great shame.

What a dreadful experience. We arrived positively looking forward to our stay at the renowned Kimberley Club but were quickly disillusioned by the dour faced, dis-interested receptionist who managed to mention that our room was one of the little ones in the courtyard, handed us our key, and gave no further information about the hotel layout or facilities - great... We were very disappointed in the image this establishment portrays and what is actually obtained. The reception lady is rude and snobbish, the food was a great disappointment. As our veg and salad arrived 20minutes before our actual main course. Which was a burnt piece of meat, and was ordered medium rare. We never complain or rate an establishment, but... More

A very nice hotel. Lots of memorabilia from the 1800's. Lovely rooms. However give the restaurant a miss. The staff are very slow, under trained & the food terrible. Our main course was sent back & the dessert not even touched. A great place to stay, but find a restaurant elsewhere.
