The place itself is nice, but it could be better maintained. The rooms are not always clean and for example mine was just painted and in there it was smelling paint all the time. Also outside it could be a very nice place but the garden may be better maintained, on the other the furniture is really really nice. Another... More

Lovely, considerate and attentive staff. Clean, attractive and comfortable room. Tasteful decor throughout. Ideal location - for estuary and walks, accessible to but not in the centre of the town. A pleasant place to relax, with advice and help to book trips if needed. Gooo value. We warmly recommend. Jan & Rod from Cumbria, England

We stayed for a week at the end of our six month travelling adventure. Maureen and her staff were lovely, very helpful. Excellent breakfast and overall a very relaxing place. If you just wanted a few days to relax in gorgeous gardens and by the pool this would be the place. Excellent value.

Very good quality B&B. Friendly helpful manager and staff. Nice restaurants nearby. Will recommend to someone else. Ample breakfast. Room well presented but pillows were hard. St Lucia is well worth a visit for a few days

We always value constructive feedback from guests as it allows us to monitor our performance and make improvements to our service. Whilst it is to be regretted that Mrs van Staden and her husband did not enjoy their stay at Kingfisher Lodge I would like to take this opportunity make a few comments in reply. The lodge is located right at the end of town adjoining the park area which enables the game to wander around the property especially at night. Everything was spotless and the owners were very hospitable and friendly. The rooms are lovely with good quality linen and furnishings. Only complaint was the only toiletries provided in the room was a bar... More

Room: small, dark, in need of some upkeep. Bathroom: shower pressure very low, shared geezer so hot water a problem, toliet didn't flush well. Garden and communal lounge are nice. Breakfast average. Overall, very overpriced, hospitality sub par.

It is a very nice lodge. The rooms are beautiful, very clean all with on terasse in a wonderful garden. There is also a beautiful garden behind the main house overlokking the river. The manager was very friendly and helped us a lot with trips and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Kingfisher Lodge is gorgeously presented, lovely rooms, great location backing on to the estuary, very helpful and a superb breakfast. Unfortunately wasn't able to witness any hippos by the pool, but that didn't matter. St Lucia and Cape Vidal are stunning. I was fortunate to witness a Zulu ritual by the beach during sunrise, nice unexpected surprise.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
St Lucia is the gateway to the beautiful iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, declared South Africa`s first World Heritage Conservation Site in 1999. St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge is situated at the edge of town which means that whilst the shops, restaurants and other amenities are only a 10 minute walk away, the lodge`s delightful gardens blend seamlessly into the surrounding Gwalagwala Forest. The lodge has extensive shady gardens with a wide variety of trees. St Lucia Estuary can be viewed from the end of the garden and the start of the walking trail through the Gwalagwala Forest is next to the front gate. This proximity to nature means that the gardens are home to a wide variety of birds and are often visited by animals such as hippos, various antelope, bush babies and very occasionally leopards. A small swimming pool is available for the exclusive use of guests. Guests are welcome to relax either on sun loungers in the garden, under a poolside shaded area or in the comfortable lounge in the main house. All room rates include a delicious full breakfast which is served in a light and airy dining room offering views of the gardens and estuary. Please note that regrettably St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge does not cater for children under the age of 10 years. Accommodation at St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge: We offer six unique and private rooms. Each room sleeps two and is equipped with air-conditioning, mosquito nets and a bar fridge for your comfort and convenience. All rooms have en suite facilities and a private shaded patio area. Other facilities at St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge: - Bar Fridge in each suite - Traditional Zulu Dinner upon request (24 hour notice) - Hair Dresser on call - Traditional Zulu hair braiding by the experts (go home with a new hairstyle) - Beauty Therapist on the premises - All our Suites are non-smoking - Smoking on the patio is permitted - Internet Facilities - Free WiFi - Secretarial Services i.e.: Confirmation of flights, arranging tours/safaris etc ... more   less
