Stopped here with a party for lunch. Buffet style service. The salad bar had a very good choice all well presented. The main course was a choice of two items Roast Beef or Vegetarian option. The sweets were home made and delicious. At the end of the meal the staff sang some local songs. It was a memorable lunch.

My husband and I were visiting the hotel's restaurant for a late lunch. When the waiter brought our food we indicated that the meat tasted and smelled off. The waiter called the chef who said they had received and prepared the meat for that day but said he was willing to hear us out and take a different order. The... More

The Royal caters to tour groups and buffet meals. I know it is cultural not to smile at strangers but staff can be trained. The kitchen staff came out into the dining room and sang three native spiritual songs. At the start of the third song, one member put her hat on the table of a nearby diner with seed... More

we stayed in an old restored cottage, 3 separate rooms with en-suites and Victorian baths. rooms were clean, (m2-4). they do require a little attention we had mildew on one of the bathroom ceilings. it was new years eve, we had the buffet @ R135, with wonderful salads and very good hotel food, nice variety. breakfast was adequate with disinterested... The Royal Hotel appears to be the only establishment in Pilgrim's Rest that is a success. The hotel has restored many of the towns other houses as annexes. All are lovely, charming. We had a lovely buffet lunch in the dining room. Staff were very friendly, service was good. Lunch was very reasonably priced and very good. Tour bus loads... More

Curious hotel located in a mountain zone at the north of South Africa. It's a travel back in time, but just this, not an extraordinary hotel. Nice to stay there one night. Food (dinner and breakfast) cheap but of average quality.

checked in yesterday afternoon already August end month , been amazing to stay in the Victorian family suite. (V3) ♡ the biscuits they leave everyday ... Even have private yard! Two separate bedrooms with large verandah to enjoy the views from, also a quaint lounge to have cup of afternoon tea. Love the atmosphere, the old charms of yester-year. Perfectly... More

Is exactly what I expected after reading other's comments. All the decoration is great. Good reception and service. No internet in our rooms... Just in the lobby and very slow. Be careful with the guys washing your car without having asked. They will try to charge 60ZAR

This small town is so rich in South African heritage and history, and all is going to waste. Half the shops are closed with African swindlers all over town. The Royal Hotel is as beautiful as ever, but enjoy your drink at a price, that is IF they have it in stock. Unfortunately, who knows for how long this beautiful... More

What looks like the old fashioned tin shack - is actually the Real Tin Shack that existed during the gold rush in South Africa. Obviously you are sleeping in a Historical Monument that has certainly upgraded since many years ago. BUT still the charm of the rooms the wonderful and cheerful staff make your stay a pleasure. The food was... More
