First of all one needs to understand that virtually every other building in the historical village of Pligrim's Rest seems to be an "extension of the Royal Hotel" - at least thats what they put on them. That means, whenever you read reviews about that place, you are not really sure where people stayed at. We stayed right in the... More

We stayed in a family suite and loved the period detail in the room, v impressed with how clean and comfortable it was. The food is good value but v old fashioned and plain.Good place to stop off at en route elsewhere, not really worth spending more than a night.

Stayed for one night in December. Place is very traditional built of corrugated sheets, Rooms were comfy with baths and generally clean and tidy. Decor is straight out of the English Africa of the 1900 s. Staff were really nice and a very good breakfast was served. Only let down was the bar which was old and presented well but... More

I stayed in the cottage with my partner's family and it was unlike any accommodation I've stayed in before - it was as if we had stepped back in time. Lovely lodgings, however given the age of the furnishings, the bed was very squeaky if I moved at all. Lovely view from the porch and I would stay here again... More

After flying to Johannesburg we drove a cuople of hours to this hotel. It is part of a historical museum to the gold panning years in S Africa. The hotel 'house' was a replica of a historical house but had really comfortable beds, a kettle for a cup of tea/coffee and was really spacious. The restaurant and bar which is... More

Stayed in a very nice, Turn of the century, annex room. Bed was very comfortable. Great soaking tub. Very clean. Very quiet. Room included a very good Buffet Breakfast the next morning. Would like to stay here again.

It was a wonderful experience with the friendly staff and excellent food. You cannot believe that they use iron plates to build the walls of the hotel And the church bar is something to visit. We enjoyed the ghost stories. The Manager of the hotel made our stay something to remember

I have never stayed at the hotel but have had many lunches there with groups including myself of 20 to 40 people. The Lunch is great value for only R120.00 per person which is buffet style and well presented. All my clients enjoyed todays buffet.

I have visited Pilgrim's rest a few times over many years, with my last visit about 10 years ago. Our room at the Royal hotel was great, with reasonable food at good value. However the town as a whole has deteriorated significantly. The shops sell cheap trinckets, roads are falling apart, and the town seems overrun with too many african... More

The hotel was Old world authentic,it had clean and comfortable beds with fantastic service! Eugene in the restaurant was a fantastic host! Had amazing experiences here. Shopping was quaint, and be careful of the car washers, who washed our car without asking, charge 60rd Cheers from New Zealand.
