We have just returned from 10 wonderful nights at Hippo Hollow and had a truely awesome time there. We went with our 6 year old son and the three of us had the time of our lives. The hotel is wonderful and the staff are extremely friendly and were wonderful with our son. He would stand guard each evening with... More

We only stayed here two nights sadly. Food was excellent, staff were very helpful, accomodation was great. Viewed hippos by the river and at our room window and glimpsed crocs in the river. Entertainment was good. Would happily return one day. Rooms could do with a little artificial ventilation.

Fabulous hotel in a beautiful setting on the Sabie river, with lush gardens. We stayed in a roomy thatched cottage with a large wooden balcony overlooking the river. The bathroom had a large double shower, a kitchen area and as well as a double bed downstairs there were 2 more beds upstairs. We were there for 5 nights and we... More

We arrived directly from Johannesburg airport and the place is just fantastic. Beautiful rooms and accommodation. Nice service. A good restaurant. A visit of 4 hippos between first and second services. The area around is really unique. We only regret that we stayed there only one night.

Basic accommodation in a "lodge". Clean but no phone and no TV or A/C. There was a ceiling fan. Some basic self catering equipment - not sure why. Restaurant was very good. Pool(s) both small and very cold - more of a plunge pool than a swimming pool. Pub and shop locally which were ok. Not safe to go out... More

Stayed 10 nights in Jul in a bungalow on the riverfront. Rooms were nice with a bedroom on a mezzanine floor and double shower. There was a large terrace overlooking the Sabie River with bbq. Did manage to see one hippo and a baby crocadile- both whilst having breakfast! The hotel is nice and staff are friendly, however, a little... More

As a travel agent I feel I can give a pretty fair assessment having fortunately stayed at many hotels across the world. Hippo Hollow's rating as a 3* hotel is accurate but is made better in its class because of it's location. Only 10 minute drive to the nearest Kruger gate and more than a fair chance of seeing hippo's... More

Hippo Hollow is a quaint little hotel just outside the small town of Hazyview. Its situated right next to a river with warnings for crocodiles and hippos, which if you're lucky enough, you might just get a peek at during lunch or dinner. The staff were exceptionally friendly and overly enthusiastic in making the experience as enjoyable as possible. Its... More

Great location, fantastic staff and really comfortable rooms. Perfect location for game drives at nearby Kruger. Restaurant is excellent and the poached eggs at breakfast became legendary.

We staying at the Hippo Hollow as part of a SA tour with Riviera Travel. Although we stopped at this hotel for 3 nights, we spent very little time there as the days were taken up by safari/tours which meant we were up and out at 6.00 a.m. and not returning until 5.00 p.m. Without a car it is not...
