We did not want to leave this place. The owner Guidon is a talkative fella with whom we had lively chats late into the night. Dennis is a gorgeous person-so lovely and interesting to chat to too. They clearly enjoy their jobs and haven't become jaded by the constant flow of guests. Sitting on the high bar stools watching the... More

Travelled here as part of an Overland Tour group and had two of the best nights of the trip at this lively camp. The bar area was the scene of many memorable moments and the service provided by Gideon and Dennis was above and beyond the call of duty. They are great guys who really can create a super friendly... Seven of us stayed at Gecko's over the Easter weekend. We had the large upstairs room, above the dorms (with en-suite loo - bonus!). The beds were super-comfortable, with lovely fresh and clean linen, and the room suited our purposes perfectly (which were: up before dawn, to beat the rush into Kruger). Not only were all the facilities clean and... More

Just got back from a long weekend spent at the Gecko Bushpackers and immediately went on Tripadvisor to write my first review ever... Simply because this place deserves it! Gideon and Dennis are great hosts, the rooms are lovely and clean and the grounds are wonderful. The place is within easy distance of Kruger (Phabenj - 15 minutes, Numbi -... More

We camped here for 2 nights during an overland tour. We were very pleased with everything - the grounds were great, it's a great location for exploring Kruger, bar with reasonable prices, and clean bathrooms! The owner and bartenders were all very friendly and accommodating. Another plus - you can walk down the street to Gecko Lodge and get free... More

We camped at Gecko Backpackers in April last year and simply loved the experience! The campsite was spacious and quiet and there were lots of sites to choose from that were private and shady. The bathrooms were clean and we could use the braai area which had a lovely view of the sunset. We could also use the kitchen so... More

Very convivial and pleasant place to camp. Good showers, excellent and well-equipped kitchen, nice location in luxuriant vegetation. Very friendly staff. Nice area for camping in the vegetation. Close to, but just out of Hazyview (first camping place you reach on the road back to Sabie).

We, a fam. of 5 from CH, stayed 2 nights and we can recommend it to any fam. It's budget, it's clean, it's close to many great "things to do" and when we were there the new owners just took over since 6 days. We loved the proposed "braai", the ease of phase and how easy things where to organise... More

The only good thing about this location is it's location, as it is close to Kruger. When we arrived we met the replacing owner, as the actual owner of the place was in another country for the time being. We picked this place because we needed something close to the Kruger gate so that we could get up early in... More

This is a typical Southern Africa type backpackers and a good base to visit the Kruger National Park and surrounds at a reasonable price. Younger independent travellers looking for company should be very happy here. However, those looking for luxury and privacy in nature will probably not enjoy it. The lay out reflects organic growth and access to rooms will... More
