We just spent three nights at Nungubane with our two teenage daughters. Welgevonden is an easy 3.5 hour drive from Jo'burg and we were warmly welcomed at the gate by Jaques with a cold beer for our efforts! We just loved the six game drives with did with Jaques (and Nathan on one evening) and were hugely impressed by his... More

This is heaven on earth! I spent two days in late December being totally pampered by the wonderfully happy, generous staff at this lovely lodge. The cottages are sumptuous with big bathrooms and lots of windows so you can continue to connect with nature as you soak off the dust from your game drive. Welgevonden, the reserve in which Nungubane is... More

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Saw 4/5 of the "big 5" ( missed a leopard sighting by a day). The lodge itself is a little dated as are the rooms and bathrooms but it didn't detract from the experience. The setting is gorgeous. The game is stunning and plentiful enough to enjoy fairly regular sightings. Lizzy the cook and host was... More

We stayed here last year and came back this year again. The lodge is cosy and has all we want. Nice rooms, nice staff, great managers. Hein and Eloise are so skilled and could answer on all our curious questions, from stars in the sky to creepy crawlies. The drives were great. The lodge takes max 10 guests and it's... More

Visited Nungubane in early August this year with our family - grandparents and teenage kids - nine of us in total! Can't say enough good things about how great an experience we had - from the game drives with Nathan where we saw everything from Cheetah and Lion cubs to Leopard, Cape Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant and Giraffes - to the... We stayed at Nungubane Lodge as a couple. The drive was an easy 3 1/2 hours from Johannesburg on good roads. The last 16K was on a dirt road to the West Gate where we were met by our guide then a 30 minute drive on a land cruiser through the reserve which gave an early opportunity of game spotting.... This is a lovely Private Game Lodge in a glorious part of South Africa. About 3.5 hours drive from Johannesburg to the main gate of the reserve, where one leaves ones car. Guests are collected from there and it is a further 40 minute drive on a Land Cruiser to the lodge with the possibility of getting a first viewing... More

Where to start as there is much raving to be done about this place......I think first place belongs to Hein and Elouise who were simply the perfect hosts making you feel not like a stanger or guest but welcome visitors in their home at the same time as being always the utmost professionals. Elouise was always there to assist with... More

We stayed as a couple for four nights in July 2014. The trip from Johannesburg is a very comfortable 3 hours by car on good roads. We were met at the West gate where we left our car in secure parking and we were taken to the lodge by Petras, our guide for the next four days. Our thatched chalet... More
