Accommodation basic but more than adequate. But who cares about luxury accommodation when you can watch a hippopotamus search for dinner in the river as you anticipate yours? And of course the incredibly friendly and helpful staff you find in South Africa.

We were very pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade to a bungalow with a great kitchen and outdoor dining area with views. We had tried to get such a bungalow when we booked, but could only get one without. Apparently people book a long way ahead then fail to pay prior to arrival so forfeit their booking. Hence many vacant... More

We were a family of 6 staying in 2 of the BD3U lodges overlooking the river and had a great 3 night stay. Although binoculars were needed we could watch hippos in the river and then heard crunching further down the fence and saw a family of elephants feeding right up to the camp fence. We didn't have an issue... More

Whoever manages this rest camp needs to put some serious investment into it. It's in a great location and the view from the lodges in the diameter is great but overall it is just so very very tired. The restaurant is a mug and bean which for UK people us a bit like weatherspoons. So you can get reasonable priced... More

Let's start with the positive: you get amazing views from this camp. Looking out over the river is stunning, especially at sunrise. Too bad we did not see any elephants even though the camp is named Olifants :) But we did see a lot of other animals crossing the river. Great! The night-drive that we did from Olifants was fun;... This private guest house is perched on the side of the mountain with views of the river. You need to hire out the entire house. It has 4 double room all en suite with a central lounge and kitchen. The most awesome thing about this house is the view, the rooms are comfortable although some are a little dark and... More

We decided to stay here as the views were meant to be stunning and they really were. I would highly recommend staying with a chalet with a view over the river. The noises of the hippos at night are great! The chalets are small, but what we needed for a base to explore. The outside kitchen area was well equipped... More

The camp is situated not far from the Mozambican border post of Giriyondo so it is a good place to overnight when you are heading to the Limpopo park. The restaurants and shops were good, the camp itself is a bit outdated and could use some refurbishments, but you get value for your money.

Olifants has to be one of the best camps in the Kruger. Set high on a hill overlooking the Olifants river it provides one of the most spectacular views. If available, reserve the bungalows on the perimeter - refer bungalow codes starting with FQ4 on the SANParks website. This is definitely a camp where you don't want to rush out... More

Olifants Camp is riding on the glory of days past. It is punted as one of the best rest camps in the Kruger National Park, but when it comes to comfort and service it doesn't really leave the visitor astounded. The view is spectacular from all view points but the chalets seem a bit old. Service delivery in terms of... More
