Bateleur is decidedly off the beaten track, which is why we chose it. It's a space for privacy, quiet, relaxation and self-sufficiency. For those less prepared, it's not all that far from the more touristy Shingwedzi, which has an excellent shop. The open kitchen/boma/seating area (with fridge and chest freezer) is a wonderful space from which to watch the many... More

At the end of a long, poorly maintained gravel road. The whole place is not looked after properly; there were problems with the electrics and the plumbing. It was supposed to be upscale with television, but it did not work. The reception staff did not have a grasp of what tourists might be interested in and were not particularly welcoming.... More

We stayed for 3 nights in March 2014 and found the camp to be friendly and peaceful. The accommodation is immaculately cleaned every day (quite necessary for the outside areas due to all of the bugs each evening which then attract bats) and is better equipped than some other self-catering camps. The hide is lovely and although we didn't see all... This is a smaller camp in Kruger, but the cabin I had was very nice and compared favorably with any of the other rest camps. I saw more birds in the surrounding area here than I did elsewhere, but the game wasn't as plentiful. Saw a lot of mosquitos in this area, so make sure you have repellent with you.

The chalets in this camp are very spacious and designed for 4+ guests, so there is much wasted space for just 2 people, and as one pays for the whole chalet it can be a pricey option. This camp is famous for its birdlife but during the winter months many of them have flown to warmer climates. Surrounding chalets with... More

I have been to many of these camps in the KNP but only recently decided to stay further north and booked a chalet at Bateleur Camp well in advance . These camps are more expensive than the larger camps but one is rewarded with a fantastic personal experience. Bateleur has only 7 or 8 chalets and the peace and solitude... More

This is the smallest of the public "rest camps" in Kruger and has a well-deserved reputation for good staff and "peacefulness." We certainly enjoyed it, but I think our expectations may have been a bit high. We saw a crazy amount of wildlife in Kruger (dozens of zebra, elephants, buffalo etc. each day), but -- for us -- the sightings... More

Well - they called it a bush camp and a bush camp it is. If you like your accommodation bug free then this maybe is not for you - but I loved it. It was small, incredibly comfortable and gave you a feeling of really being 'out there'. The bungalows are very well equipped and the outdoor kitchen and dining... More

We have been visiting Bateleur for a few years now and it is consistently one of the better-run camps in Kruger. The customer service is excellent (they are the only camp that I've been to recently who sends out a welcome email prior to the visit) both before and during your stay and the accommodation is very comfortable. There are... More
