fantastic experience staying at shimuwini. only regret was i didnt stay 2 nights. River view on all chalets and plenty of game to watch - elephants, hippos and birds. There is a fig tree which in June was like a buffet for bird activity. Most exclusive location. We saw many elephants in the river and buffaloes on the drive in... More

We liked Shimuwini, in a stunning situation overlooking hippos and hope of other animals. The cabins are spacious and well placed. They have received some extra glazing to allow sitting with a view if cold, which it was when we were there. One degree at night! Previous reviewers are right, the inside needs sorting out and is really old fashioned. There... More

The camp was awesome and truly set in the most beautiful location, beautiful views and the hippos were very vocal, absolutely lovely. The bird hide was great, and one should definitely take a cup of coffee and some biscuits and watch the sun rise..... HOWEVER upon arrival absolutely no warning was made that the fridge would go off for lengthy... More

Set on he banks of the Letaba river this bush camp reminds me a little of the stunning Mekong river locations you in Laos. The duplex chalets are light and spacious and sleep 5 comfortably. They have living areas as well kitchens which open up through large, glass double doors onto grass sloping down to the river. They are entirely self-catering... More

We stayed in 3 different camps in Kruger - Shimuwini bushweld camp was one of the older ones, accommodation bit tired, could do with some update but it had the best view. Sitting on the terrace, looking over the river, incredible. Lots of game to see around the camp. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Our fourth visit to Shimuwini, and the staff and setting remain the high points. Game to be seen driving around the area is often not that good, but staying in camp you can see plenty coming to the river just outside the fence. The units are a bit tired and unimaginitively designed, but all have some river views and the... More

We love the smallness and intimacy of the place. The view over the river is beautiful. From the camp fence and sitting on our stoep, we saw elephants swim and play almost every day. Last time we stayed here (a very long time ago) they have added a camp swimming pool - very nice.

What a great place! This was the last camp we stayed in on a week long adventure through the Kruger. The accommodation is a bit dated, but the location and surrounds were fantastic. We stayed in No.15, right at the end of the camp. Our open air "lounge room" overlooked the watering hole with hippos and crocs right on the... More

If you need peace and quiet, this is the place for you! We spent 5 nights in Shimuwini and love the place. We stayed in nr 9 and would recommend this chalet very strongly. Downstairs is a bedroom with double bed, bathroom, kitchen and sitting area. Upstairs, like a loft is another 2 singlebeds. Ideal for families with 2 children.... More

The camp is wonderful. Beautiful river front location. We saw elephants, crocs, hippo from our Patio. The chalets are private, and are great if you want to get away from the craziness of the bigger Kruger camps. Staff were great too. The only complaint that I have (which is unrelated to the camp itself) is that game was very sparse... More
