Compared to all the other bush camps in Kruger, Shimuwini has the best view on the surroundings. Very often you can watch elefant breeding herds for hours from your bungalow, as well as a wide variety of other game. Good birding as well. The cleaness of the bungalows could be a bit improved compared to the other places in Kruger.... More

We stayed for two nights in late September, wish it had been 3 we had booked a two bedroom place, firstly let me say the accommodation was basic but was great for us, make sure you take adequate supplies, the place was clean the location was to die for, if you want to see animals this is the place to... You think 'Bush Camp' and what comes to mind would generally be 'no flushing toilets?' 'No Showers?' Rough living. How wrong. For me, this is my favourite camp in the Kruger Park. Set alongside the river, great bird hide (where we had elephants eating just meters away from us). The accommodation is 'semi luxury'. Theres a swimming pool (for those... More

What a glorious experience. This camp in the Kruger National Park is really in the middle of nowhere. The accommodation is very basic but pleasant and comfortable. No plugs to charge any electronics. (The only plug in the unit runs a fridge). There is a communal freezer at the main gate which worried me but actually turned out fine. The... More

Shimuwini bush camp is a very good option for the seasoned Kruger National Park traveller who has already visited all the main, more commercial parks or for someone who wants to get a little closer to the bush. Situated in the north of the park the camp is quite isolated and you travel approx 11kms on dirt road from the... More

Four of us only spent 1 night in chalet 7 and really loved the positioning/layout of the accommodation. The only things that I have to gripe about are that we only booked one night (our fault entirely) and the positioning of the braai area on the side of the chalet looking onto/in very close proximity to our neighbours - why... fantastic experience staying at shimuwini. only regret was i didnt stay 2 nights. River view on all chalets and plenty of game to watch - elephants, hippos and birds. There is a fig tree which in June was like a buffet for bird activity. Most exclusive location. We saw many elephants in the river and buffaloes on the drive in... More

We liked Shimuwini, in a stunning situation overlooking hippos and hope of other animals. The cabins are spacious and well placed. They have received some extra glazing to allow sitting with a view if cold, which it was when we were there. One degree at night! Previous reviewers are right, the inside needs sorting out and is really old fashioned. There... More

The camp was awesome and truly set in the most beautiful location, beautiful views and the hippos were very vocal, absolutely lovely. The bird hide was great, and one should definitely take a cup of coffee and some biscuits and watch the sun rise..... HOWEVER upon arrival absolutely no warning was made that the fridge would go off for lengthy... More

Set on he banks of the Letaba river this bush camp reminds me a little of the stunning Mekong river locations you in Laos. The duplex chalets are light and spacious and sleep 5 comfortably. They have living areas as well kitchens which open up through large, glass double doors onto grass sloping down to the river. They are entirely self-catering... More
