The beautiful Shingwedzi camp on the banks of the river of the same name is newly re-opened after a devastating flood in early 2013. The buildings and grounds are freshly painted, nicely groomed and very pretty. The chalet was very comfortable. The restaurant food was basic, but good. Staff was friendly and helpful trying to deal with the usual South... More

We had to gather at 0415 to start the walk. By 0615 we had walked 300m, due to the guide saying "its too dark" and then explaining everying in details for the remainder of the time. We walked a total of 2km in 3hours, saw nothing, only a dead scorpion - the 3hr walk covered only 2km on my gps.... More

Recently renovated after being closed, new fridge and kitchen utensils. Staff very friendly, helpful well stocked shop. The restaurant was closed but looked like it was about to reopen. Peaceful atmosphere and drives quieter than in the south. You could see how devastating the floods had been, huge trees down and swept down the river.

This SANPARKS camp has recently been restored following devastating floods earlier this year. We were disappointed that the chalets with loft rooms are no longer allowing use of the loft area. It makes the floor space very cramped for four beds. The staff at this camp were by far the friendliest of all the (many) Kruger rest camps at which... More

Shingwedzi Rest Camp has been beautifully repaired and refurbished and it was great to be back for 3 nights. The bungalow was excellent as always, the staff very efficient and the location and surrounds beautifully quiet. We've never seen so many elephants before, including lots of young and very young ones. Lovely birds and the Apple Leaf trees were in... More

We stayed here 1/10/13, checked in just before 6pm to find out the restaurant was still closed until further notice. Managed to get some frozen meat in the shop, which closes at 6.30, unfortunately this was the only place we stayed where there was no microwave to defrost stuff. Ran back to the shop and the guy there was very... More

A very good one night stay in a very well refurbed room and bathroom. The restaurant wasn't quite functioning so did a Braai, with food bought at P&P Polokwane on the way. Didn't see much game so glad we only had the one night.

This rest camp was damaged by flooding in 2013, and is slowly being brought back with repairs and refurbishing. The camp I stayed in was clean and comfortable, but the big draw of Shingwedzi is the game watching. Someone in a previous review said it was for the hard-cord of the game watchers, and they were spot on correct. Just... More

We stayed only for one night. They are still repairing and refurbishing the camp after the floods. The swimming pool and restaurant are not available at this stage. . Our accommodation was clean and comfortable

Shingwedzi is the polar opposite of Skukuza - I believe really a camp only for hardened game watchers. It is a long drive to get here but I believe worth every single kilometre you have to drive. Accommodation is dated and in need of refurbishment (i did visit pre floods in early 2013) and the restaurant could do with staff... More
