Shingwedzi is a lovely place to camp. Even though we went at a busy time during school holidays the ablutions and camp were always kept spotless. The ladies at reception were always helpful and friendly. The shop had all yhe bare necessities you could need. The restaurant could do with some better management as the service was not good each... My husband and I were in the caravan park at Shingwedzi from 25 May 2014 to 31 May 2014...we both came down with bad flu and sinus ...due to the dryness and dust, we are used to the humidity of Natal !!!..Having used a few bottles of medicine from the store with no relief....we then asked the camp manager if... If you like elephants this is the place to come. We saw over 100 in a km stretch one afternoon. Nicely renovated rooms, better than the rondavels in other camps, quite spacious with nice sitting out areas. There is an issue with bugs as we got some tiny bites. The takeaway from the restaurant was fne.

We stayed in a hut for two nights and used the communal ablutions, which were 25 meters away from our hut. Everything was very clean, and we were positively surprised by the ambiance of the camp. There were less different kinds of animals in the surroundings, but we knew this on forehand. There were a lot of elephants though. We... More

The pluses: Everything is new/redone since the 2013 flood. The paint is fresh, tile new, the furniture and linens new. The deck at the restaurant/reception has a nice view of the river. The elephants play in the river just outside camp every night before sunset. The minuses: It is a sand pit due to the flooding. The entire camp is... More

The beautiful Shingwedzi camp on the banks of the river of the same name is newly re-opened after a devastating flood in early 2013. The buildings and grounds are freshly painted, nicely groomed and very pretty. The chalet was very comfortable. The restaurant food was basic, but good. Staff was friendly and helpful trying to deal with the usual South... More

We had to gather at 0415 to start the walk. By 0615 we had walked 300m, due to the guide saying "its too dark" and then explaining everying in details for the remainder of the time. We walked a total of 2km in 3hours, saw nothing, only a dead scorpion - the 3hr walk covered only 2km on my gps.... More

Recently renovated after being closed, new fridge and kitchen utensils. Staff very friendly, helpful well stocked shop. The restaurant was closed but looked like it was about to reopen. Peaceful atmosphere and drives quieter than in the south. You could see how devastating the floods had been, huge trees down and swept down the river.

This SANPARKS camp has recently been restored following devastating floods earlier this year. We were disappointed that the chalets with loft rooms are no longer allowing use of the loft area. It makes the floor space very cramped for four beds. The staff at this camp were by far the friendliest of all the (many) Kruger rest camps at which... More

Shingwedzi Rest Camp has been beautifully repaired and refurbished and it was great to be back for 3 nights. The bungalow was excellent as always, the staff very efficient and the location and surrounds beautifully quiet. We've never seen so many elephants before, including lots of young and very young ones. Lovely birds and the Apple Leaf trees were in... More
