We have visited Kruger National Park many times over the past 30 years and although we now live in England we travel back every 3 or 4 years. This visit we booked into Orpen Camp for two nights and we're lucky enough to be allocated Cottage 15 which was right next to the perimeter fence overlooking the waterhole. Sitting in... More

If you want a small rest camp in the Kruger National Park, then Orpen rest camp is ideal. The rooms are not huge, but adequate, and the outdoor kitchen has all the utensils you need, including fridge/freezer and 2 plate stove. The stoep (verandah) is large, stretching around 2 walls. The bathroom is not huge, but again its adequate for 2... More

I stayed at Orpen for 1 night in a BD2 bungalow. This camp is in lion territory. On a sunset game drive; saw a large herd of buffalo being followed by 4 lions (3 lionesses & a male). We watched the lions for about 25 minutes. They failed on their attempted hunt and were chased away by a group of... More

The Orpen is a nice camp located right at Orpen gate. The room and spacious terrace was one of the best we had during our whole Kruger stay. Great to have your own Braai (there is no other Option als there is no restaurant). This Camp is good if you have just arrived at Kruger or about to leave the... More

We got stuck at the rest camp on our way home when our car broke down and we were assisted by a couple of people but one stands out and that is a gentleman called Phillip. He is part of the staff that worked at the camp on 26 April 2015 and he went out of his way to assist... More

We spent one night in Orpen; we had hut 15 which is the last in the row of huts and gives you a good view of the littlle drinking pond which is floodlit at night. We had the pleasure of seeing a herd of elephant come down for a drink. Make sure you are aware of the gate closing time... More

Orpen Gate Camp is a definite for Kruger enthusiasts... We always have a pleasant stay at this camp and the highlight is the night life around your chalet and the webcam. Will be back. Staff are very friendly in the shop.

We had an amazing self-catering chalet right next to the fence and it was superb! The chalet had 2 bedrooms (3 single beds in each) and both rooms had their own bathrooms. The kitchen and living area is a verandah outside the chalet and a treat to be able to sit out and enjoy your stay. We had buffalo sleep... More

I have stayed here twice and you are guaranteed to hear lions and hyenas whilst you eat on the verandah. There is a pool, laundromat. The rooms are decent sizes. There is a shop with food and anything from bug spray to car stickers to postcards. A great safari base.

I stayed at Orpen rest camp for 2 nights and I had one of the most excited experience of my life. There is a waterhole in front of the camp, so a lot of animals go there to drink some water. Very early in the morning around 4:00AM, I heard the roar of a Lion, then I went to the... More
