I have stayed here twice and you are guaranteed to hear lions and hyenas whilst you eat on the verandah. There is a pool, laundromat. The rooms are decent sizes. There is a shop with food and anything from bug spray to car stickers to postcards. A great safari base.

I stayed at Orpen rest camp for 2 nights and I had one of the most excited experience of my life. There is a waterhole in front of the camp, so a lot of animals go there to drink some water. Very early in the morning around 4:00AM, I heard the roar of a Lion, then I went to the... More

This camp is a good place to start in the Kruger Park. Close to the Orpen Gate, you will be able to see a lot of animals from there ( Impalas, elephants, girafes, zebra, baboon, hyenas, jackal ). The accomodation is correct and clean (outdoor full equiped kitchen, barbecue). Warning : the honey badger is not a legend, he has... More

We spent one night in a Bungalow during the July School holidays, on our way to Mopani Restcamp. The accommodation was clean, not exactly 5 star, but more than adequate for our needs. You need a clean bed, a clean bathroom and a braai - that's it. The shop was well stocked. Our night drive was amazing. The outside kitchen... More

The lighted watering hole is amazing. Everything and everyone camp up in the morning and the evenings all we did was just have to sit back and relax. Cabins were SUPER clean, and staff was amazing. We did a morning drive which was excellent. No real food services available but the store was well stocked. Gas attendant was very grumpy...... More

First visit to Kruger. Arrived late well after sunset following flight delays. Had phoned ahead to check still OK to arrive in dark. Met at Orpen gate and told to make way to main gate. We believed we were not yet in main park so were amazed when a Hippo appeared at the side of the road within 2 mins... More

We love going on Safari and this was the first time we did a self-drive safari around the Kruger. It was fantastic. The camp isnt luxurious but very well kept and the accommodation is more than adequate. The freedom these camps give you in terms of driving the Kruger at your own pace cant be beaten. We loved having this... More

Small pleasant rest camp with water hole visible from the accommodation. Well stocked shop. Staff very helpful and friendly. Self-catering equipment adequate but we discovered that the microwave oven did not work. We were given a replacement within an hour, but were taken aback when a staff member wanted it back the next morning to place it back in the... More

First time at Orpen, having stayed at most other KNP camps previously I chose this one just so we could arrive late from Joburg en route to subsequent nights at Talamati bush camp. We had one of the larger family units; old style National Parksaccommodation, won't win any design prizes, but spacious, everything clean and functional, and a very nice... More

Orpen was probably my favorite camp – mainly because it is small and quiet with good viewing of wildlife both inside the camp and outside the fence. There are only about 20 units or so, no restaurant, but a well-stocked shop is available on site. The units are set around a shaded courtyard, looking out onto the waterhole just outside... More
