The Monkey Bay is a very different Hostel. We stayed in a treehouse with an open bathroom on the terrace. You can see the ocean while showering, that is amazing. The rates are fine and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There is cheap breakfast and wifi available at the Hotel next door. The owner was also very nice. There... More

In traveling with friends, I stayed at Monkey Bay for three nights. The backpacker is beautiful with outdoor showers, great decorations, a full kitchen, and it looks like a paradise. My first impression of the owner, Michael, was that he was fun and welcoming as he greeted us with smiles. Our interactions throughout the week were pleasant until my last... More

Our first bad comment. yay! First and foremostly we are passionate about travel and people and it is our job to make sure our guests are happy and safe when they stay with us. We see in your opening sentence you say we friendly and thank you for that. But for something to go so pear shaped during the duration... More

Nice backpackers close to Durban airport. Looks good with all the different colours and different kind of rooms (dorms, private rooms, camping). Kitchen and two (quite small) communal areas outside. Owner was friendly. Supermarket, nice restaurant (discount vouchers available at hostel) and beach close by. There are several things to do in Ballito, but for us (and most people who... More

We stayed in many hostels and backpackers around the world during our trip, but Monkey Bay is one of the best! Mike and Lucky are a great team, thanks to them you will feel truly like at home. We came to Ballito for just one night, but we stayed for almost a week just because of this great place! Thank... More

This is a cool place with various hang out spaces. The staff is friendly and we met other nice travelers during out stay. Nice hot water in the shower and comfortable beds. Some confusion with booking but worked out in the end.

The staff and owner Mike where extremely friendly and informative. I felt at home from the start. The accommodation is reasonably priced for the area and the backpacker has a laid back open feel, very well laid out as well with a braai area, bar and many nooks and crannies to put your feet up and relax. They offer surfing... More

Stayed overnight here en route to the airport in Durban. Room was basic - not 'en-suite' as claimed on hostelbookers but the shared bathroom was right next door. Bunk beds and a double bed felt a bit crowded for just two people in one room but the bed was comfortable enough and the bedding was clean. The room itself could... More

The owner did a good job building this backpackers hostel. It got a relax atmosphere and the owner (and his sister) are nice people. It is a bit basic but good value for money (and close to airport). The city itself is nice to see in 1 day.

I loved the people and the place, very well done, cozy. These places you feel at home. The tree house is very funny, for a couple very romantic. It is very clean, too.
