Last month me and my sister spent 2,5 weeks in South Africa. As we're quite spontaneous travellers we only called there two days in advance but they were very friendly and booking two beds in a dorm was no problem at all. The dorms were quite small but with loads of lovely warm blankets and comfortable beds. Also there was... More

Sani Lodge is in a great location at the foot of the Sani Pass and, given the price, our two bed rondavel was perfect for the nights we spent there both before and after pony trekking in Lesotho. The common area, fireplaces, and kitchen were also lovely, with a view over the mountains. The home-made yogurt at the adjacent restaurant,... More

Thank you for your feedback. July and August were indeed the busiest months in the 20 years of Sani Lodge history!! Tourism has boomed due to the favourable exchange rate of overseas currencies to the Rand making this country a very attractive tourist destination hot spot. We had the fortune of visiting Kruger National Park for 3 days at the... More

I stayed here for 2 nights, it was during the weekend and the lodge was completely full which made everything a bit crazy. This was the best sleep I've had during my entire trip through South Africa. The mattress is comfortable and you have a down filled duvet. The scenery from the lodge is beautiful. The kitchen pumps out lovely... More

Thank for your review of your stay with us. July and August were incredibly busy months due to overseas holiday makers flocking to sunny South Africa. The exchange rate is very favourable for visitors to South Africa and one can enjoy a cheap holiday in this vast country compared to anywhere overseas , Australia or New Zealand making it a... More

We travelled as a group of four and rented Aloe Cottage for a few nights. From the moment we arrived, Russell (he and his wife own the hostel) made us feel as if this was our second home. It was a feeling that would continue throughout our all too brief stay. The hostel itself is set against a backdrop of... More

Had a wonderful stay here! The staff (particularly Scola) were fantastic, so incredibly friendly and helpful. I stayed in a rondavel and it was lovely....and with a steaming hot shower! The atmosphere of the hostel is so relaxing and laid back - wish I could have stayed longer. The perfect place to stay while exploring the area.

Sani Backpackers was a great stopover for us. Small simple rooms and a heated common area with kitchen. Had a great time on the Day tour to Lesotho with Paul - very knowledgable man. Highly recommend for a few days stay to get the feel of the area. Wifi is not available in common area only at the cafe next... More

Thank you for your input. Paul is a born and bred local with a great love of the mountains and thus a storehouse of knowledge . The whole country was plunged into severe cold after the Cape sent up antarctic conditions . Thankfully it lasted just a few weeks even though it did break records in its wake. The temperatures... We booked Aloe Cottage & a rondavel for 2 nights in June for a family get-together. Aloe is extremely comfortable & very cosy (it was rather chilly when we were there in June). Well equipped kitchen with lots of frying pans (nonstick too - yay). They also supply you with a coffee plunger & ground coffee which is a pleasant... More

Thank you for your feedback. Homemade crumbed chicken breast schnitzel has recently been introduced to add more variety to the dinners. Please accept our sincere apologies that you found the schintzel dry that night. We have spoken to the chef about this. They are meant to be succulent and juicy, being cooked in butter and olive oil and have proven... More

Lots of attention to detail. Endless information. Comfortable and warm sitting area. Helpful and attentive managers. Way ahead of other backpackers in vicinity we have stayed at. Plan to return soon in summer.

Thank you for taking time to contribute feedback. There are four distinct seasons here , each completely different and attractive in their own unique way. In spring many feathered migrants return to nest on our property and flower bulbs awaken in the mountains. The summer months boast long days typically with hot ,sunny mornings and possibly an afternoon shower. The... More

I chose to stay in a single rondaval as I wanted to be able to leave my bike in my room. The rondaval was tiny but I think this made a big difference when it was so cold outside. I had everything I needed including a kettle and tea and coffee which was an unexpected touch. There was access to... More

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, small is indeed the way to build here for warmth in winter ,but this little rondavel was mistakenly built a few feet smaller in diameter and has been converted to a single person room as a result. The month of July this year when you visited produced record breaking low temperatures overnight not only in... We spent four perfect nights here staying in a Rondavel - comfortable, cosy and warm. Everything was clean and our room was serviced every day. The restaurant served great food at a reasonable price, otherwise there is a kitchen to self cater. We did several of the guided walks, all with knowledgeable, experienced guides and they were good value. Thank... More

Thank you for your write up and for braving a visit over what has been the coldest July on record!! Overnight temperatures at the Lodge went down to a record breaking minus 9 deg C and minus 16 deg C on farms in the district. The huge cold front that hit Cape Town spread to the entire country and even... More
