My family, including two from overseas, stayed here at the Mtini Lodge in the week leading up to Christmas. This was my second visit and Mtini had caught my eye for its beautiful location overlooking a large lake. Because of the severe drought the lake was in reality a marshland with a stream running through it but this seemed to... More

Thank you, “Foregone” for your lovely comments. We love hosting families that embrace farm life as yours did! Mthini truly is a special place and I’m so glad that it was home to your family reunion. You’ll have to have another reunion once the drought has broken to witness the view become even more spectacular. We wish that you had... More

We spent one night at Penwarn as a stop over from Eastern Cape to the Northern Berg. The farm is absolutely beautiful. Our room was perfectly appointed and well equipped. A morning run with the resident border collie in the mist was a highlight. The farm has lots of dams and I am sure you could wonderful walks across the... More

Thank you, Janet! We hope that you will return for a longer stay in the future. I am sure that Tack the Collie is missing his morning adventures. Your starter of Baked Camembert and main course of Chicken Florentine with double cheese sauce are considered to be two of our specialty dishes. We often have these dishes requested for wedding... We were travelling as a group and unfortunately we only spent one night at Penwarn Country Lodge. We enjoyed every minute! Nicely decorated rooms with good beds, good food and the management and staff always go a step further for us. I will remember this wonderful evening at the open campfire for a long time. And I know that the... More

Good morning Akhona, Initially you enquired to stay in luxury accommodation which you turned down once you had been quoted. You then opted to stay in our more affordable self-catering, family orientated accommodation – this being the last cottage that we had available for that long weekend. Riverside is our 10-sleeper cottage which we happily let out to your party... More

Not sure if our visit to Penwarn was real or a dream. We arrived on a dark, foggy, very cold and rainy day but were greeted by Marie and Marius's warm smiles, a roaring fire and a glass of sherry. That night our prearranged dinner was delivered to our cottage and what a hearty 3 course farmstyle feast it was!... More

Thank you Ninette! We hope that you do come back to visit us and enjoy another picnic at Ladybird Rock! You really did explore all corners of the farm which we are thrilled about. It is such a pleasure to share our little piece of Heaven with couples that love it as much as we do. We hope to see... More

This is our second visit to Penwarn, we had previously stayed in the Lodge itself which was great but this trip we chose the self catering option which was wonderful. Kudu cottage has the most spectacular view of a series of the farms dams, we spent most of our stay on the verandah watching the view change according to the... More

We recently stayed at Penwarn for 5 nights and would like to thank Suzette, Shannon, Reuben, Chef and all the housekeeping ladies who all could not do enough to make our stay as comfortable and rewarding as possible. Unfortunately my daughter and I were both sick with flu, she upon arrival and myself later in our stay and all of... More

Very remote lodge, driveway poor surface , need a 4x4, stayed in chalet, only one loo and poor shower, super setting, v quiet, excellent for twitchers. Horse riding offered , unfit horses, beautiful estate to ride across. Meals ok - no choice of menu - dark dining room - staff friendly and helpful. Establishment would benefit from refit!

Penwarn is simply the best accommodation we have ever stayed at in our many visits to South Africa. The track down to the lodge is an adventure in itself, passing through stunning scenery and with fabulous views of the Drakensberg mountains. Once we arrived, we knew we were somewhere special. We had a really friendly welcome from Suzette on reception,... More

We visited in winter, for our honeymoon and we managed to get a fair rate (even though it was school holidays) roughly R500pp pn. On arrival we found that we were the only guests, which was fine by us. I was a little surprised that they hadn't done any additional decoration of the room as you would expect for a... More
