We recently stayed at Penwarn for 5 nights and would like to thank Suzette, Shannon, Reuben, Chef and all the housekeeping ladies who all could not do enough to make our stay as comfortable and rewarding as possible. Unfortunately my daughter and I were both sick with flu, she upon arrival and myself later in our stay and all of... More

It was an absolute pleasure hosting your family, Wendy. We are always thrilled when families embrace farm life as yours did and are privileged to have provided you with two new family members. We trust that Dyno and Rina will bring you many years of happiness and adventure. We look forward to hosting you again and wish you better health... More

Very remote lodge, driveway poor surface , need a 4x4, stayed in chalet, only one loo and poor shower, super setting, v quiet, excellent for twitchers. Horse riding offered , unfit horses, beautiful estate to ride across. Meals ok - no choice of menu - dark dining room - staff friendly and helpful. Establishment would benefit from refit!

Penwarn is simply the best accommodation we have ever stayed at in our many visits to South Africa. The track down to the lodge is an adventure in itself, passing through stunning scenery and with fabulous views of the Drakensberg mountains. Once we arrived, we knew we were somewhere special. We had a really friendly welcome from Suzette on reception,... More

We visited in winter, for our honeymoon and we managed to get a fair rate (even though it was school holidays) roughly R500pp pn. On arrival we found that we were the only guests, which was fine by us. I was a little surprised that they hadn't done any additional decoration of the room as you would expect for a... More

Penwarn is an old 19th century lodge off the beaten track. The last 20km's or so before you get to the lodge is all dirt road with the last few km's only really suitable for SUV's or high raised vehicles. It seems a lot more remote than it probably is, but the fact that there is no cell phone signal... More

Went to the Penwarn lodge and have the following to say: Negatives: Place really needs an upgrade, especially the rooms Bathrooms not up to standard, mould in parts of our bathroom grouting Not too much to do actually, all tours etc run by one person, who if busy with another tour cannot really help Dinner - no really choice, give... We stayed at Wildflower self catering cottage, overlooking the dam. It was just what we needed to kick back and relax after running the Comrades Marathon. A really beautiful working farm, with an interesting farm tour including the dairy and stables. The three course meal in Penwarn's dining hall was delicious too! A memorable birding tour and an informative trip... More

Thanks to our GPS, we reached Mtini Lodge located by a lakeside just before dusk, in time to see the birds swoop past in V-formation inches above the water on their way back. We saw elands, horses, zebras and a few ostriches after entering the sprawling estate. It was pitch dark when we switched off the Lodge lights and I... More

With our small car and after a long period of rain, the access to the Penwarn estate was challenging, particularly at night time, but our efforts paid off when we arrived. Suzette, the lovely hostess took care of us, and welcomed us with hot chocolate. The beautiful lodge was waiting for us. The estate has wonderful views, and the staff... More

I have to say its been a long time coming, but I should put in by vote of greatness for Penwarn and in particular my fellow Devonshire lass Cherie! You can't go anywhere in this world without meeting someone who lives nearby and this was no exception! Myself and my partner spent a beautiful and tranquil two nights. Whilst the... More
