We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Zulu Nyala. It was booked through a deal advertised and although it was stated that it would be a tented room, we stayed in one of the rooms in the Lodge which although was not luxurious was fairly comfortable. Nyala and Warthog roam freely around outside the chalets which is really great. The food... More

I booked a weekend away for my wife as a valentines gift. We had a wonderful, romantic and peaceful stay. We stayed in a tented room and loved it to bits! Spacious and luxurious with a super comfortable bed. With Nyala, zebra and impala walking around outside our door, we sat watching the sun go down on our porch with... More

We stayed three nights at Heritage, also three at the Game Lodge (see separate review), so we were able to get a good comparative feel for the Zulu Nyala properties. We stayed in a "tent", but this is a real misnomer, because the room was basically a stucco structure, covered with robust tent fabric, with ventilation panels throughout, which could... More

We stayed at the safari lodge in December. Overall, our stay wasnt bad, but we much prefer the game lodge which has far better views, pool area and ambience. Also were a bit irritated about being strong armed to have lunch at the resort, which we firmly resisted. Nice dinners and breakfast and knowledgeable game rangers

Let's just start by saying THE PEOPLE ARE FANTASTIC! This lodge is lovely in its own way but the staff made the trip! We spent our first 2 nights in the tent. Which was charming and big... Amongst the animals.... But we were there in October (spring rainy season) and between the wind and rain on canvas...well let's just say... More

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. He has dietary restrictions (gluten, dairy, etc) and they were so accomodating and made special meals for him at no extra cost. The employees become your friends by the time you leave and the game drives are AMAZING! We saw cheetahs, giraffes, monkeys, hippos, white rhinos, buffalo, nyalas, exotic birds, elephants and... More

This was an amazing vacation. The grounds were immaculate, the employees were so friendly and helpful and the safari trips were exciting- each and every one. Our safari guide Dumi went out of his way to make sure that we really saw everything there was to see. He recommended 3 side trips, The Elepant Encounter, Penda and A boat trip... More

We stayed both in Safari Lodge and the Heritage Logde Luxury Tents and although we enjoyed both the Hertiage Tents were amazing. The genuine feel of being on a Safari with impeccable accommodations. We really enjoyed our stay in the tents. Safari's start super early in the morning and late in the day so you have some down time in... More

We stayed in the tents for three days after staying the Game Lodge... Really spacious tents and very clean with well appointed amenities... The safari guide, Bernie, was THE BEST and really make our trip one of a lifetime!! Nyala and zebra wander the grounds freely really adding to the safari feel.

We had a wonderful stay at Zulu Nyala! Thanks to Anton, our guide, the daily morning and afternoon safari drives yielded something different each time. We watched drama unfold at the hippo pond when a rejected young male attempted to rejoin the pod. Another morning a mother cheetah was teaching her youngster how to hunt impala. We watched giraffes awkwardly... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Heritage Safari Lodge was originally built in the 1940’s as a hotel and was a landmark pit-stop for weary travelers between Maputo and Durban. Acquired in 1996, the gracious building was lovingly restored to its original colonial grandeur, enhanced with new accommodation, and tastefully themed to highlight Zululand’s unique cultural heritage. With buffet-style meals in our restaurant, the wide, welcoming veranda and our ‘human watering hole’ - the pub or thatched boma, warm and relaxing atmosphere is conducive to shared good times and conviviality. The sparkling pool is always inviting, and you’re sure to enjoy browsing our beautifully stocked curio shop for a few authentic African mementos. ... more   less
