My husband and I traveled to Hluhluwe and stayed at Umkhumbi for 2 nights. The rooms are neat and clean (no wifi but you don't go to the bush for internet). The staff were amazing, and warm all round; especially with Ntombi (the waitress) being such a delight at dinner. Lara was helpful in welcoming us, Adam shared in his... More

Problem with this lodge is that its not inside a game reserve. You have to drive to one (closest is 30minutes away) and unless you booked a gamedrive in advance, you are on your own with this.... Good qualities: very friendly staff, large clean rooms conveniently located to varieties of game reserves and St Lucia wetlands, aircon that works in... More

Many thanks for your review of both the things you liked and those you didn’t, I just want to make a few comments: We are on a 20Ha nature reserve with walking trails and lots of small game species including Nyala, Duiker, Suni and Serval and Bushbabies. There are no game drives on the property but we are happy to... More

Anton's Umkhumbi lodge is a hidden away gem in South Africa. Your private bungalow room on a private reserve, tucked away in the trees, is the definition of peace and tranquilly. Lodge owner Anton Roberts has a well set up game plan for seeing everything from this spot. From Hluhluwe-mfolozi game reserve (Which is an awesome place to see wild... More

I had the pleasure of visiting Umkhumbi lodge this December. The layout and set up is just perfect, giving you feel of the bush without being a inconvenience. The company and food was top notch, and help from our hosts were great to make it a very memorable stay. We are planning our return already.

Stayed here with a tour group. Cozy room, close to the dining area, which served good meals and decent drink. We did not spend much time here, as we were busy with game drives, ect. Nice, quiet location to dine and drop into a deep, peaceful sleep. The only problem is the signage: our experienced driver had trouble finding it... More

The friendly and accommodating staff make this a place to visit. Clean accommodation with a homely environment. Establishment doesn't feel crowded, each spacious room is set in the forest for privacy with its own deck looking onto the forest. The dogs, Copper and Shadow, as well as the resident baby warthog are a delight. Tiny waterhole was dry at this... More

My first impression was a little off as I saw a rather simple lodge with nice rooms - but don't always judge a book by it's cover! The rooms are simple but clean and have everything you need - a fridge, coffee and tea facilities, clean bathrooms, nice surrounds and then...... You meet the fabulous staff! Issey who was our... Stayed for 2 nights but would have stayed more if I could. Unfailingly helpful staff and top location very handy for surrounding activities. Rooms very clean. Food excellent and great bar. Make sure you have a working mobile phone with you or you might struggle to get in.

Very glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for taking the time to review. A note on the mobile phone entry - you don't need a mobile or cell phone in order to gain entry to the property if you have the code for the gate.
